The two basic aerodynamic forces are drag and liftDrag is the force that air exerts on a car while it is moving, while lift is the perpendicular force exerted by the air on the car - a very similar type of fluid you can just don't see them. If you're hanging around at low speed, the air isn't much to worry about, so there's not much drag and cars have a lot of power to push the air out of the way, even if it's shaped like a brick. In the early days of automobiles, manufacturers really didn't have to worry about shape because cruising speed barely hit 45, but I don't know if the Model T was maybe more aerodynamic it might have 50-50. - The earliest land speed record drivers quickly realized that optimizing their cars will make it much better to go fast.
Because of this speed squared of the equation, the air resistance increases significantly the faster you go. Some call it exponential. At 70 mph there is four times more drag than at 35 mph.

For the same reason, the more aerodynamic it is, the more aerodynamic an electric car can go on one charge. That's why they look so strange. Now that we regularly drive at speeds in excess of 70 mph, we have a new focus on fuel efficiency or battery life.
Production vehicle designers are trying to get the lowest coefficient of drag. Most modern cars somehow have a drag coefficient between point .25 and point .35.

As the air follows the curved roofline of a car down a bit, it creates a fast and smoother air flow that creates a lower pressure area of lift around the rear end. - Ew.- The spoiler only disrupts the airflow a little and helps to compensate for part of the lift.
It spoils the airflow, it's a spoiler. (laughs) Anyway, they don't create any downforce of their own, but that's why spoilers give a little more stability at high speeds, and if you look at the Audi TT, which is like a jelly bean cut in half, it was slowly getting all over 110 mph in accidents. If more air gets into the narrow space under the car than the amount of air flowing over it, you will take off in trams creating positive lift at high speeds and, like with the wing, you really want low pressure air to go under the car with high pressure air flowing over the top . When a splinter is added, the amount of air can build up as more of it moves across the car.
Now with more pressure on the top and lower pressure underneath you have a net downforce on those front tires, we mentioned earlier that there isn't much drag at low speed and that means there is hardly any downforce either. - But the good news is that downforce increases exponentially with speed, just like that annoying drag you know Eddie.
