For everyone else out there, here are some simple tips to improve the lighting for your home article calls (jazz music) I'll record you a little trip around my office starting with natural light. I light up my face, but all of my background is completely dark. And this might work for you if you don't want to draw attention to your background when it's cluttered or embarrassing. Look, then there are a couple of things you can do.

You might be tempted to turn on your ceiling lights or any other incandescent light bulb that you have in the room and you really want to be careful with that because when you mix natural light with inside? Light, you will get some color casts due to the color temperature difference. So either you might look orange or you might look blue and it really throws the look off. Unless you really need that extra boost of light, stick with natural light or incandescent light.

Another thing that you can do to make the natural light look a little better is, instead of looking straight into the window, you can rotate yourself a little 45 degrees to the window like this one. This gives you a bit of a shadow on one side of your face. It's a little more flattering, it reduces your blemishes, and just has a little bit of a cinematic touch to it. (Jazz music) When you're in a situation like this where very little natural light hits your face, you have to rely on indoor lighting, preferably some lamps that you have.

One of the biggest mistakes when people put desk lamps in the corner of their desk and point them straight at them with a really hard look like this one. In this scenario, a bare lightbulb shines right in my face. Not only do I have these really harsh shadows on one side of my face, but it's just not comfortable to have that big huge light on your face all the time, especially during lengthy meetings.

But there is a pretty simple solution. If your lamp is flexible at all, you can turn it over and point it at the opposite wall. Now the light bounces off that wall and down onto your face, creating a much softer, more even look. (soft jazz music) As for the background, if you want to spice it up a bit, you can try turning on lights that might be in the background, but be careful because they could be a little distracting with lots of areas like this blown out If you have smart lightbulbs in your house, these can be used to customize your look.

You can turn the backlight down like this or create an accent color that sets you a little more off the background. (soft jazz music) If you really don't want people looking into your disgusting living quarters, you can kill the background entirely by hanging a sheet or curtain behind you, or if you're willing to spend some cash you can Get a large collapsible white and black background that you can hang on a tripod or light tripod and set it up right behind you. To chat with someone on Skype, click the Chat tab, then click New Chat. Select 'New Chat' again from the drop-down menu, then select the contact you want. A chat window will appear.

Enter your message in the window and then click send. There are other features you can use in the Skype chat window as well as entering a message like adding emojis, attaching files, and sharing your location . You can find all of these features here.

Once you've sent a message, an icon will appear below the message to indicate that you have received the message; when you reply, it will appear that you are tapping here. Once you have credits in your Skype account, click the Calls tab and Then click 'New Call'. In the pop-up window, select the 'Dialpad' icon in the top right corner, then enter the phone number you want to call.

You may have to tap the screen once to find the Video Off button. But there is always a button to turn off the article. Now, you can look for a little blinker and try to find a physical way to block your camera, right? You can get a sticky note and put it over your webcam and disable your article that way.

What I would like to share with you, maybe more important than that, are 2 techniques and ideas to use the article in and article out feature to get involved in your own virtual and remote meeting collaboration etc. to increase. And the phrase that I am I give you or the technology or the tool I created to do this is called the termite technique.

And very simple, it's the ability to turn off your article and walk into the woodwork like a termite, isn't it? So what I was doing at that moment was fading into the background. Now my tone is still coming through well. And that's what you could call this podcast mode somehow.

And it's really very useful for virtual meetings because I find that the best way to avoid awkward silence while zooming is to create productive silence. But inviting everyone to turn off their articles and essentially switch to that podcast mode releases the bias and you can just give people a minute to digest what you said. Introverts in particular will appreciate this idea. And so, very simply, termite technique.

Termites can come out of the wood now, right? So I've used this for a number of large companies that are supposed to remain nameless. But you have all likely heard of them and may even use their products and services. I've helped a few companies create virtual recognition events.

So personally, right? We perform, we award prizes, we invite people to a stage. We're happy to give them a small medal if they win the Olympics. We'll give them a trophy.

A badge, a kind of thank you, right? And when you zoom in it just feels like that ...

And so there is a really cool hidden tool with the article off feature that if you turn off the article and click that settings button up here, then click the article settings . It opens up all of these other advanced settings. And one of them is hiding all non-article attendees when you scroll down.

That is, if we had 40 people on the call and 30 of them didn't have their article, when I click on it, they all go away. Now it's just me and me on the zoom call so you can't see that. But what it does is create that little fishbowl dynamic where all of the people who were there ...

I think I'll just talk to you in this mode. All the people who were on zoom and article and turned off their articles fell back into the woodwork. And essentially, the people who had their articles stay on the stage.

And so this intimate little dynamic arises, where and even if 40 people are on the phone, it only shows who has his article. Well, this is an individual setting that everyone individually opts for and needs to create. So you may need to coach your group where that mindset is to do this.

But it's a really useful tool to then give some affirmations and some thank you or create a small panel discussion or fishbowl discussion where 5 people can speak and 30 can listen. But if someone has something to say, they can turn on their article and boom! You join this circle of 5. Really clever way of creating this engagement.

Termite technique. That's number 1. The second thing I want to share with you is the framing and a tool to invite more people to tune in to their articles, right? It stinks when you show up to a meeting and you're the only one who has your article on where it's like 2 of you and then 10 other people who don't have your article.

Can you personally imagine that we would show up for such a meeting, right? And half of the group showed up as they are, and the other half of the group came up with paper bags on their heads. You would say something in the meeting. You would say, 'Hey, Jess.

Why paper bag? Can we take it off? What's happening?' But in the zoom it has become normal, right? And now there are many reasons why people would want to turn off their articles. There could be a lot of reasons why you might want to disable your article, right? Maybe you don't want to show your space to people. You may not have enough bandwidth and your internet is slow and clogging things up.

You may have just done a 5 mile run and are not trying to make everyone work up a sweat. But the point is, to increase engagement and connection and effective communication, we have to increase bandwidth. And by that I mean, if we're just talking on the phone, the entire non-verbal context is being overlooked.

So it is a gift to your group to make it safe enough and make the expectations clear enough that people can and maybe even should have their articles. Well, sometimes I share this paper bag analogy with the expectation, 'Hey, it's really weird. We are in a meeting like any other meeting '.

But this is very much like being centered as the leader of a meeting. I would like to invite you to do something different. I would like to invite you to put this to your advantage.

So if you do something that uses your article, right? When everyone has their article, you can get non-verbal feedback. So you can say, 'Hey, on a scale of 10 out of 10, this get-together is amazing and I really love it. It's awful, I can't wait for it to end.

And that meeting should have been an email. ' Where are you? Law? And so you can see that ad very quickly in the gallery view when you zoom in, which is a very useful tool, right? To be able to respond and respond to the needs of the group in that moment. Well, you can't do that through audio that easily.

Well, I'll say even if people are only into audio, you can use that little reaction button, right? And people can give non-verbal feedback that way, and that's useful to share with others and also to codify it in some way. So that could mean, 'Whoa! We have to keep exploding this and going down that rabbit hole instead of just partying. ' So, a handful of tools, a bit questionable. Tap on Next. Write the CAPTCHA code. Tap on Next.

Now select the date of birth. Now select the country. Tap on Next.

Confirm your age by tapping Next. You can easily find contacts here. You can tap Allow or Deny as you like.

Tap on Next. I'll tap Allow again, tap Next, and hit Allow to allow all dialog from this step. Now your Skype is connected to a new account on your Android phone.

Let's see a brief presentation of the app at the top left, a notification button. So tap on it when you have new notifications. At the top right you have some sorting options for the list you will have with the chats.

You can also add a mobile number here if you want. Now you also have a lot of options in the settings. Account and Profile are almost the same options as the skype profile we were already looking for In general, you have the option to change the language of the app.

When it appears you can choose the theme for your Skype and also the main color. You can play with it and set it up however you want. In the call settings you have some interesting things like Caller ID.

You can set up a person to receive a call from Skype to look like it's coming from your phone number. You can also allow this device to only ring calls from contacts annoyed by someone you don't know. You can also enable the Call Subtitles option.

This is very good for people who don't hear well. With messages, you have special options for messages, nothing special, but this is useful. With notifications, you can choose which push notification you want to receive.

Skype is generous and lets you choose exactly what you want to get. That is very nice. Again, if you tap on the chat, you can turn off the notification for some time or permanently.

Now the last option is Contacts. This is where you can sync your phone contacts with Skype If you haven't already, you now have Skype installed on your phone. Skype is a very good app for keeping in touch with friends and colleagues.

To add the contact to Skype, you need to do the following. Tap the contact button at the bottom. At the bottom, tap on the icon with a profile and a plus.

When searching, you will need to add the username of the account you want to add. Add or name for that person. Let's find part of a username, now you can see that Skype found multiple accounts with the same name.

So when you add the contact check the person's username and it's also good to check the picture if there are multiple people with the same name, the best way to choose who your contact is is to look at the picture. Now tap on Add for the person you want to add as a contact. The person you added as a contact needs to confirm that they know you.

So wait for the other person to answer. If you want to call someone on Skype, please follow these steps, first in the chat zone, if you have already spoken to that person, you can easily start a call, if you can't find the person in that zone, tap on the contacts and find the person there tap the person you want to call. Now you have two buttons at the top: a article icon and a call icon.

If you want to start a article call, just tap the article icon. If you want to start an audio call, just stop the phone icon, so let's tap the article call. Now the call is in progress and we are waiting for the other person to answer the call.

Please note, if the person answered the call, you can easily turn the article or audio on or off in this window at any time during the call. You have three buttons microphone, article and end call. There are three dots at the bottom of this window.

Tap on it. Here you will see other options like: Allow Incoming Video, Enable Subtitles, Add People, Start Recording, and Split Screen Try to write what the person said. This is a very good option for those who do not hear well.

If you also want to keep a copy of the discussion with the person, you can press Start Recording. Please remember that both of you will receive the recording, so let the other person know that you are recording the meeting. You can also share your screen with the person if you want to show them something from your phone, these are the Main Call Options If you want to create a conference call in Skype please follow these steps.

You have two options to start the conference call. Let's see what to do if you're already on the phone with someone and want to add another person to the call. So I'll just start a call with someone.

I'm tapping the person's name. Tap the Call button. So the call has started.

Now tap on the three dots at the bottom right. In this menu, tap Add People. Select the person you want to add to a conference from the list.

It can be more than one person. If you have a large list, you can just search the contact. Tap that person to see if they want to be added to the conference call.

If you accidentally added someone, you can just delete them before you call them. Tap the X button next to the profile picture. When you've added the person you want, tap Add.

Now the person is called and after they have accepted, you start the conference call. Another way to start the conference call is to create a group for this conference Tap this button from the bottom Now tap on the new group chat In this group write the name of the conference you want. After that, select the person you want to add to a group.

After you do that, just tap on Done. In this new group, just tap the call from above and you will start your new conference like a simple call n conference call, you have the same options to add more people, share the screen and record the meeting. This is very useful.

To start the sharing screen, you need to call someone. Let's call someone on my list. Tap on that person's name and tap on the call button at the top, the call has now started tap the 3 dots in the bottom left, you will see the screen share option here, tap on screen share, you will now receive a notification about the confidential information disclosure, this information may be different depending on the Android version and your phone brand.

When you're sure that screen sharing is starting, tap Start Now. Now screen sharing will start. Let's see what this looks like on someone's screen.

Here is the other account that is connected to the conference will see that person can see your current screen. Every notification and all data are visible to this person. There is a slight delay in screen sharing, but this is normal.

Take a look at how it acts to stop screen sharing, just go back to the Skype app. You'll have a button at the top to stop the screen. Tap that and screen sharing should stop.
