The Business Edition is designed for a corporate environment and has a much broader set of features. Here are some tips and tricks to make Skype for Business work for you. Number1 - Create Skype Meetings in Outlook.
Skype for Business is linked directly to Outlook. All you have to do is click on a new Skype meeting when you are on your calendar. Skype automatically sets your dial-in numbers and a link to your Skype meeting.
Just put your contacts in the To:, enter your subject line and hit Send.Number 2 - Record a Meeting in 1080p HD. Once you've started a Skype meeting, you can just click the dot-dot dot in the lower right corner and start recording.
This will record your meeting in 720p. If you'd like to set a higher resolution in your Skype settings, click Record and check this 1080p Full HD setting. Number 3 - Split a PowerPoint file.
The best way to share a large PowerPoint file in Skype for Business is to upload it to the cloud. Click Share Content. Select Share PowerPoint Files.
Select your PowerPoint file and it will upload it to the cloud. Now this document can be viewed by others without waiting for your files to install. Once you've loaded it, click the Share Content button again and you can go to ManageContent and control the settings for the file.
Remove, block, make available only to certain people and many other settings. Number 4 - Automatic update of calendar presence information. In the Skype for Business settings under Personal, activate this checkmark for 'Update my presence based on my calendar information'.
This will update your contacts and notify you when you are in a meeting. You can also select the check box to share this information with private or public contacts. Number 5 - Set do not disturb in meeting.
Also under the Skype for Business settings. When you switch to the status, there is the option 'Show me as do not disturb'. When I share my desktop, use this to notify people that you're in a meeting and don't want to receive phone calls or instant messages.
Number 6 - allow external communication. In your Office 365 admin center, click Skype for Business. Under Organization, click External Communications.
If you select this check box, users will be able to use Skype for Business to communicate with Skype users outside of your organization. This allows you to receive and send Skype instant messages to people outside of your internal network. By default, this is enabled with the exception of blocked domains and here below you can add any domains that you want to block from communication.
Number 7 - customizing meeting invitations. In the same area of the admin center for Skype there is a tab for online meetings. This is where you can actually make adjustments to your meeting invitations.
You can create a logo, you can add a url to a help file, you can also include a legal url and create footer text that will appear at the end of your Skype meeting. This information will appear between these two dashed lines on your meeting invitation. Number 8 - check your call quality dashboard.
Another useful feature in the Skype admin center is the call quality dashboard. You can access it by going to Tools, clicking on Skype for Business Online Call Quality Dashboard. The call quality dashboard is only useful if you have integrated Skype phone functionality into your Skype for Business environment.
It shows graphs of the activity of your phone calls and whether the quality is good, bad or unclassified. It shows you monthly and daily trends and gives you a good idea of how many calls are being made on your network and whether the quality is sufficient. If you see a large area with poor communication, it is an indication that something is wrong with your network or something has been affecting your internet connection.
Number 9 - add mobile and home phone numbers, in Skype settings under Phones there are several phone numbers that you can enter. Most of the time, this information is populated from Office 365 or Exchange, but if it's missing, you can actually paste it inside yourself. Add your cell phone number, home, or any other phone number and make it available to other people on the contact card showing your contact information.
And finally number 10 - meeting options. If you want an effective Skype meeting, click the meeting options for your calendar entry. Under the authorizations you can choose who you want to wait for in the lobby.

Just like this one. This will simply go away after a few seconds. Watch it slide back inside.
Some can stay and I'll show you how to control that in a minute. Once they're gone, they can be accessed by clicking the date and time in the top right corner. This will bring up the notification center.
The notification center consists of two parts. Notifications at the top and widgets at the bottom. Now there are exactly three notifications showing here, but you can see that I have an indicator here that tells me there are more.
Also notice that some of these are grouped. For example, you can see that there is a calendar notification, but there is a group of reminder notifications and message notifications. If I click the spot that says More, you can see that there are others here, including a group from a website and one from Screen Time.
You can always go to the right of the Notification Center here and there's a little button that lets you collapse the More section. Removing these is now pretty easy. Note, if I roll someone over, I get a little x button and I can refuse.
I also have some promotions down here. The action depends on the app issuing the notification. So here I have a calendar snooze button.
Memories have different things. Let me click on this group here to see both notifications of the reminder. You can see that there is an Options button there.
I can click on it and choose an option that is specific to reminders. Other apps may have different options. You can also click Show Fewer here to collapse them back into a single group.
Also note that sometimes I have a little button here and again it depends on the app. In the calendar, I can click on it and see more information about that particular item. There are three dots here too and I can click on it and set some options here without going into System Preferences.
So I can disable the calendar notifications right here or jump straight to the settings, which we'll look at in a moment. I can click here to reduce this again. If I have such a group, I can click the x button here to close one, or I can click this here to delete everyone in the group.
Let's check out these messages here. I click on it and you can see that I have the option to discard each one. I have the ability to erase everything.
I also have options here like Show More, which will allow me to reply right here in Notification Center, or I can mark this as read. Now, if you are getting a lot of notifications and they are always in the way and annoying you, then you want to take control of them. To do this, go to the system settings and there to notifications.
You will see a list of apps and system processes that are using notifications. Pick one and you'll see the notification options for that app here on the right. You could ban notifications entirely.
For example, let's go to Messages and I can turn off notifications for messages entirely. I can also choose the alert style. I see this in the top right corner of the screen when I'm doing my work and suddenly a notification pops up.
I could say no, I don't want that. I want it to be in the message center, but I don't want it to bother me otherwise. Or I could choose banners.
Now banners will appear and will disappear after a few seconds. Warnings will appear and stay there until you take an action. You can also choose whether or not to show them in Notification Center at all.
So if you want to see a quick notification from an app, e.g. For example, if the Music app is playing a new song but you don't want the Notification Center to clutter, you can turn it off for music.
You can also choose whether or not to show it on the lock screen. So before you sign up. This is important when an app tends to give you private information.
For example, for messages, you might not want them to appear on the lock screen. You can see the Badge app icon here in the Dock when it shows a small number, like messages above that say I have two messages. If I turn this off for messages, you might see now that I don't have a number there.
I was also able to choose whether or not to play sounds for notifications. I could still make them appear like that, but quietly. There are also options for previews.
For example, I could display that I have a notification for messages but no preview of the message. For grouping, I could auto-group it, group by app, or no grouping at all. Each element is there individually as it was before.
There is also the universal setting for the show preview. Note that this is shown when unlocking (default). Well, if I changed this to 'Always', 'Always' is now the default.
So you can go through all the apps that are allowed to send you notifications and change their appearance. This way you can get rid of a lot of annoying things and only have those that are very important to you. Now also notice that there is a website listed here.
I visited a website that I know has notifications. Now Mac Rumors is doing everything right. You actually have to request from the website.
You won't get one of these warnings asking you to accept notifications every time you visit the site. But I was now able to control this website's notifications right here. You also have the option to do this in Safari.
You can go to Safari, Settings, and Websites from there, and you'll see a list of open websites and websites that you've allowed notifications on. Here you can Deny or Allow or just select and remove it so it looks like you have never visited this site before. Now you can see that the site is missing in the system settings.
So some other tricks here at Notification Center. You can control-click or two-finger click on a trackpad at any time to get some options here, deliver quietly or deactivate options for each group. Also, if you get a notification, be it a banner or an alert, you can click and drag it to the right to take no action.
Just kind of get it. It'll still be here in the message center. Now also here in the system settings, Notifications, the first element is not an app, but your do not disturb settings.
Here you can automatically turn Do Not Disturb on by selecting From and setting a time to switch on and a time to switch off. You can have it turned on when the display is asleep or when the screen is locked or when you are mirroring on the TV as a projector. In other words, you are giving a presentation or watching a TV show that you air on AirPlay.
You can also turn on Do Not Disturb by clicking Control Center here and then clicking Do Not Disturb. You can turn it on for an hour, until the evening, until tomorrow, or just permanently. So if I put it on when I get a new message, nothing happens.
I won't let it appear here. But when I clicked on Notification Center I was able to see that the message actually got to me and is showing up in Notification Center. I just didn't get the notification on the screen here because I turned do not disturb on.
You can also permanently add a 'Do not disturb' indicator to the menu bar by going to the control center and dragging 'Do not disturb' to the desired position in the menu bar. So now you have this little moon here. You can click on it to turn on Do Not Disturb or view the current status like it was now off and now you could see it is on.
I think this is an inevitable task for any Mac user to go into System Preferences and look at your preferences, use your apps and adjust them. Otherwise, you'll either get too many notifications and they're in the way, or you won't get enough notifications. Like you don't know when you get new messages unless you look.
Notifications are a very useful part of using your Mac, but you need to take control of them to get the most out of them.
