How do you unfreeze Excel on a Mac?
To unfreeze panes, open your Excel spreadsheet. Select the Layout tab from the toolbar at the top of the screen and click on the Freeze Panes button. Then click on the Unfreeze option in the popup menu.

So let's see how to freeze a row in Excel. I will show you how to freeze the first row in a worksheet and the first column, and then I will show you how to specify in more detail where to freeze your rows in order to freeze rows one through three so that you can keep them as you scroll down the Screen, and maybe columns A through C so you can see the first three columns as you scroll. Planto helps you fill in the gaps. Right, let's sort that out for you. It can be really painful when you don't have freeze windows enabled and of course you start scrolling down the screen and you lose the headings at the top of your columns.
Gosh it's just such a pain because you can't really see. Here we have such as cost price, recommended selling price, selling price. So when I scroll down I can't really see which of these each option represents.
So yeah, you are not alone. Everyone has a problem with it and it's something that when I've been treated in my workshops, people say, 'Oh my god, I just love that.' So let's do this together.
Now let's look at the first row here, up here. I would love to freeze this so we can see that as we scroll down we don't. So what we're going to do is we're going to make our way to the Views tab and come down to freeze panes.
Look at that, it even has a little icicle on it. (laughs) So, we just click on that little drop-down menu. Now I'm just going to shoot the middle option here where we have the top row freeze.
As soon as I click on it you will see or I hope you can see that a little gray line is being produced now. It's under the first row. So when I start scrolling down check them out.
It actually stays absolutely brilliant on the screen, which is gold in color. And when I scroll over you'll see the same thing. So, let's go.
That snapped in there nicely. Now if you want to remove your frozen slices, it's easy. You just come back here and thaw, so it's not a thaw, it's a thaw (laughs) so I'll just take that off and now you'll see we're back to where we were before, so first Row, easy peasy, it's really easy to get this stack.
The challenge comes when you have a situation where it's not the first row. So, I'll just get to another little worksheet that I've sorted out for you here. And what we have here is that it's not line one.
It's line three. So of course I scroll down here, this has thousands of records in it and you will see that again, we have the same problem everywhere, we are losing the column headings and it's hard to see what's in each column. So in this case, if I went up here and freeze on the top row it will of course freeze my annual sales and that won't do me any good, I'll just go and grab unfreeze, well, you will, if you freeze from a set point In Column A, select under the row you want to freeze, So just below that row, when I get here now I want you to select the Freeze Window option at the top, if you move on here now you can see where the line is now? If you scroll down it is locked.
So you can manage wherever the row is a little lower than the first. So, I'm just going to take this off, so I hope it helped, I'm going to take this off now, and what I want to do is talk about freezing crevices as well. So, I'll just go and remove that, and of course if I wanted to freeze the first column, that's easy.
Of course it's the bottom option there. And we do this when we actually scroll to the right. And of course you want to see that invoice number, so if you have about 50 odd columns and you lose the invoice number or something? otherwise this is somehow useful for you, it can also be a real challenge.
You know, I see a lot of people who really just use color. They kind of color something, and then of course when they scroll over it they I can see that this is the same line they need. Know that you can just use freeze windows to do this.
So, I'll just remove that. So on top of course ...
These two options are pretty obvious, top row, first column. I just go and take this off. But what if I actually wanted the invoice and customer name, both of which are shown when scrolling.
So again, we're facing a bit of a challenge now, so here's the rule. How to work with freeze windows. I already taught you that if you want to scroll down, of course, you go under the line you actually want to freeze and then go and you use that option here.
But if we want to include now ...
And of course I asked you here in Column A, which made it easy, because of course that means you're just freezing the row above here. But if we actually want to lock these two columns and the lines up here, you can go below the line you want locked and to the right of the columns that should be locked. So, I'll say that again.
You go to the row below the row you want to lock and you go to the right of the two columns that you want to lock you want to be frozen or locked too. So when you've done that, go to here keeping rows and columns visible while the rest of the worksheet scrolls and look at that based on the current selection. So basically it means that it will freeze at the top and to the left of your position based on the current cell you've selected.
So, let's click on these now and you should see the little gray lines now, and when I scroll down you will see that. We have the headings there now, and when we scroll over them we see those two columns. So, I really hope the instruction was helpful and you can now freeze your worksheet from any point you want.
Remember to select Freeze First Row or Column if you only need them to be visible, but if you need to freeze from a setpoint, select the cell under the row you want to freeze and the column to the right of the columns, that you want to freeze. Then select the top option in the Freeze Areas menu. You've probably seen this before, usually you add formulas to your spreadsheet when you're in a hurry, and ...
nothing. The formulas don't compute, or they don't compute and look more like a sentence than a formula, in our first example, the culprit is text formatting. To check this, go to the Home tab and under Number you can see that our cells are formatted as text.
Both examples have been formatted as text. The one where we can see the = sign was formatted as text before I started entering the formula. The one that looks like a number was formatted as text after I entered the formula.
In other words, in the second example, the formula worked, but it stopped working when the formatting was changed. To fix this, either highlight the range of cells you need to reformat or the entire table and we'll change the format to General or you can choose Number, Currency, Accounting etc, just NOT text. So next, although we've changed the formatting of the sheet to recognize numbers, we still need to take a second step to actually convert them to numbers.
Think of it as a way to confirm to Excel that they are really numbers. So let's go over three ways we can convert that back to a number. The first way we can use this warning sign to convert this to a number.
We can change them one by one, or we can select a range and convert them to number at one time. To reset your formula so that it is calculated you can either double click on it or use F2 to go into it. And that works fine for one or a few formulas, but when you have a lot of formulas that you need to do this for, consider using Find and Replace to replace all of your = signs with a different = sign .
And that might seem strange, but if you do this after changing the formatting of the sheet, it will reset the formula so that it is calculated. The second option is on the Formulas tab under Formula Monitoring. Click on Error Checking and this will check all cells in the table that may contain an error.
This way you can evaluate each cell individually and see if you want to convert it or not. The third way to convert these to numbers is to use text in columns. And let me undo this so I can show you.
So, select the selection - all in the same column - that you want to convert to a number and go to the Data tab. Click Text in Columns. It doesn't matter if you choose Split or Fixed Width, both will work, and click Finish.
But what if formatting wasn't your problem? Suppose you update these numbers and find that the result doesn't change. Well, your hand may not be set to auto-calculate. And this setting may have been changed for various reasons, but it's easy to check and fix.
To see if this is the problem, go to the Formulas tab and look under Calculation Options. So you can see that this is set to Manual Calculation. That means we have to force the calculation.
To do this, you can either click Calculate Sheet or Calculate Now to update this number. If you want to change your settings so that this workbook calculates automatically in the future, update this setting. In our third example, the formulas are displayed and even if we double-click on them, we cannot see the result.
So it could be that your sheet is set to show formulas. To check this, go back to the Formulas tab and in the Formula Monitor you can see here that Show Formulas has been selected. To fix this, just click Show Formulas to deselect it.

Okay folks, I'm going to show you how to deal with the iMac freezing every Apple computer you might have, that pretty much freezes my computer sometimes, it was two or three times a day, it freezes when I open a lot of Safari tabs and when I play around with everything QuickTime related and it also crashed when I opened Final Cut and the like.

Disk Utility or either double click your mouse or open it to open it, click Disk Utility ok and it will ask you to select a disk volume Image you will select the first one that is your startup disk right here and here your computer boots from this drive the macintosh hd in my case it's a 640 gig atashi and there are the details if it's correct my computer boots from here so we'll check the hard drive repair disk first, now it says here if the repair disk is not available click check the hard drive well we are going to click the repair disk, mine was nice and clean and the reason was because i already did that but you will find that your actual one is up with all this stuff fills up and it can take up to 20 minutes, could even take an hour, just let it do its job, it will all go through and clean up next time which is a problem what you need to do is go into this and check the hard drive and you are actually doing this in stages so that you are going to do this, it will save your computer from crashing this will prevent all these problems software that has problems name it now that will find all problems okay then what are you going to do when this is done and remember what i said yours will probably take a little longer so you start with this repairdisk go to this if it does not allow repairing the disk to start you know to check what you are doing go back and you will actually do these two these are disk permissions checked repair disk permissions what happened I believe all your software is QuickTime, if you installed a driver for a printer or scanner if you have any kind of software in I was having problems with Safari and it showed all of these things that were wrong and fixed them all. Don't run any other software but just let it do all of its work so that we have completed the verified disk phase, as you can see that the McIntosh volume appears to be fine, then what you could do is fix the disk permissions so now i am going to click on it and here i have seen all the repairs here it all happens i was on this click this button after doing the desk check now click this and this is where all the problems will come to me sooner.
Now I have already gone through these steps so this won't be that bad, but there can still be some issues and they are the ones that will crash the computer, hopefully this will work for you and it won't make the computer the same Crash as it was. I mean, I crashed almost every time I opened Final CutPro or QuickTime Movie Player or Safariso. Mine crashed pretty much like I said, now you can see how to fix permissions estimated that there are actually still issues after doing a couple of repairs so believe it or not, this may take a while and this will just go away and fix one thing.
The other thing you can do is, once the repairs are done, just restart your computer or turn it off and then restart it and hopefully that's all fixed for you
How do I unfreeze my Excel spreadsheet?
You're scrolling down your worksheet (or scrolling to the side), but part of it is frozen in place. This is probably because at some point you decided to freeze the panes. To fix this, click View > Window > Unfreeze Panes.
Excel worksheets can contain many cells and at times you may find that you want to view different parts of the table at the same time.
For example, in this table I have a list of sales reps in the first column, but when I scroll right these names go away, making it really difficult to see who the sales data belongs to. We can fix this by freezing the first column it will always be visible. First go to the View tab and click on Freeze Window.
You have a couple of different options, but we just want to freeze the first column. Now if we scroll down we can easily see the names of each seller no matter where we are in the table. This worksheet also has dates on the second row and I want to freeze them so that they will remain visible when you scroll down, but in this example it will work a little differently and that is because it is row 2.
You can see why when I go to the Freeze Window command. There is an option to freeze the top row, but there is no option to freeze only the second row alone; Instead, we need to freeze the top two lines. Since we have already frozen the first column, we must first reset the spreadsheet by selecting Clear Window and now you have two options; You can either select the row below the row you want to freeze - in this case it is row 3 - or you can select a single cell like B3.
Selecting just one cell will freeze the rows above it as well as any columns to the left of it, and that's exactly what we want here. Next go to the Freeze Window command and choose Freeze Window 2 and 3 and also between columns A and B. When I scroll down I can see all of my header data no matter where I am in the table.
Sometimes you may need to work with different parts of the table at the same time. There are a couple of ways you can go about this. One is to click the NewWindow command on the View tab.
This gives you two separate windows that you may need to rearrange so you can run both at the same time. These windows show the same file and we can use them to view different parts of the worksheet. For example, if the workbook has multiple sheets, you can view two of them side by side so that I can see 2013 sales in one window and 2014 sales in another, which makes comparing the two years very easy, if you want If you're only returning to one window, you can close either by clicking the close button in the upper right corner.
You can then resize the window if necessary or just click the Maximize button. Another way to see different parts of a worksheet is to use the Split function. This is a bit like freezing windows, except you can scroll each section independently instead of freezing them.
Then select a cell you want the split to appear in, usually near the center of your table, and then click the Split command. And now you can see that there are vertical and horizontal splits. There are also four scroll bars that we can scroll down with different sections, if this view seems too cluttered to you, you can simplify it by removing one of the dividers, if you drag the vertical divider all the way to the left it will disappear and you just have a horizontal dividing line.
