Hello this is John, I am going to demonstrate the defense of the Excel geek so that it can be anywhere to make a histogram chart in Excel, which may not be as simple and automatic as it is in Minitab, but it can be concrete if you use Excel 2010 your mileage may vary if you are using Excel 2007 or earlier.
So you can tell that this is 2007 or 2010 instead of 2007. There's no big Microsoft Office button up here that just takes up a lot of space and you need to access the data analysis. You do this by going to the data tab and then the analysis section and hopefully you will see the data analysis when you don't see any data analysis.
That means you need to activate the add-in, and to do that, if you are in Excel 2010 you click on the file menu, if you are in 2007 you would click the big Office button up here and then look for options and then under options add-ins and sub-add-ins I'll make that a little smaller under add-ins you can see what is active application add-ins you have and which inactive you have. So if you need to activate one, click here and follow the instructions we don't have to do. We're going to click cancel here because it's already active for us and do the analysis click data analysis make sure we have histograms selected and then okay our input area we will paste the labels right here I clicked on one I'm holding Shift held down and if you look down here I'll hit the end button so I'm in M mode I hit the down arrow and just selected all of these dates very quickly.
Now I'm going to the bin section which I did very quickly with my Apple Magic Mouse, if you don't have any of these you should buy a mac just so you have a matchstick mouse click the 'labels' tab here and click Then click on the output area and we will select it here. We click OK and now we have the data required for our histogram thebins a bit and I'll do that.If they say this is actually 1 to 60, that is 60 1 to 120, you get the idea here 121 - what was that 180 181 - that was it 181 - 240 and if you notice that I put an apostrophe in front of it to make sure that I want it to create a text element here instead of an equation I can't do two things at the same time241 - 300 and then we have 301 to 360 now I can create my chart I mark my data click on insert we do a whoops where 'then we do a column chart, just a normal 2d column and that's pretty close, not quite that, what we want because we have these gaps in between but to get rid of the gaps we can click one of the bars that we have Can golimit go to format data series and then you see a series overlap there with series options and gap width and we can eliminate the gaps so you have a quick and easy histogram.

Today let's take a look at how to quickly create a histogram chart in Excel, first of all, what is a histogram good for? Well, it's great for checking how the data is distributed within a salary distribution within your company.

Let's create this from scratch. Here is our data set. We have the employee names, their starting date and the annual salary.
Based on this, I want to create a histogram chart. What I'm going to do is highlight the data, go to Insert, and insert the histogram you get, but you'll probably want to adjust the bins here as Excel will try to automatically guess the best fit range based on your dataset, but you will may want to analyze the data in different areas. You can specify this in the options just enable the axis by clicking on it and going into the axis options.
So you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + 1. Right here we can see it's set to automatic, but we can set the bin width, which is what the width of the area here means. So instead of 53,000 I'll change that to 40,000 and hit enter.
Immediately I see that the number of bins has changed to six. It would also be nice if the ranges were rounded to the nearest thousand. I can control this so that I can define the overflow and underflow containers as rflow, which means that the highest point I want here is something I'll set manually.
I'll change that to 200,000 and hit enter. I'll change that for the Unterlauf-Bin too. So instead of the minus 62,000 default value it has, I change it to 30,000 and hit enter.
Now my areas look a lot tidier. All I have to do is enable the data labels. So select the row, right click, add data labels, let's make them a little bigger so they stand out and be bolded.
Now I can remove the axis, remove the grid lines, and I'm done. And it all happens automatically. So, if I take Paul Hill out of here let's say he's downgraded.
And it goes down to 20,000 and I hit enter. The first area increases automatically. And the second area is decreasing.
