Win32k.sys is missing - simple answers to questions
How do I fix Win32k Sys?
- Update your device drivers.
- Run SFC.
- Run a disk check.
- Beginning last Tuesday, Microsoft released an update that actually crashed many computers.
You will get an error message with the blue screen of death and for most of the actual error stop code says APC_INDEX_MISMATCH and what specifically failed was win32kfull.sys check if you have the Kyocera printer installed because the Kyocera is the main cause for this particular problem. So click start or just click, press your windows key and type winver, which is abbreviated for windows version, top left corner here, watch out for the version, in my case I have 2OH2, your might 2004, 1909 or 1809.
Once you have that particular version, there are a number of different areas you can go to to find the Windows Updates. The more common one is, you can click Start again and type Control Panel, and as soon as that opens you can go to Programs and Features, tune Windows or view installed updates, wait for this list to spread, and it says Search and Saved Updates at the top , you can enter that particular number there. As you can see on this system, it was installed and it was installed on my last update, March 11th.
So I can click on it here and uninstall, if you like the GUI, for those of you who prefer the command prompt, you can go to a command prompt and type the following command in that particular area, and I usually do that for most of my clients send them this and say: just run the following file in an admin command prompt as it is a lot easier. You can run wusa / uninstall / kb: and then run the specific knowledge base or update that applies to your computer. If you're running Windows 10, version 2004 or 20H2, it's kb: 5000802.
If it's version 1909 it's kb: 5000808. And if it's Windows 10, version 1809, it's kb: 5000822, so uninstall the appropriate update for your system asks you to restart. And, in most cases, it actually fixes the problem, and it wasn't always the case.
There are two other things you may need to do, click Start again or right click it, go to Control Panel, depending on where your Control Panel is linked. Go into your devices and printers. Once that loads on your screen, just scroll down and take a look at your printers.
If you have the Kyocera, you know this is causing the problem. Right click on your printer, you can go to printer properties. And somewhere here there is always an option that says, Spool documents or print directly to the printer.
It is usually located under the Advanced Printer Properties tab. If the document is now spooled, it will actually cause the printer to crash and cause a blue screen error. You can change this here to reprint directly on the printer or the other option.
If you have something to send this to your staff, come here and look for the name of the actual printer. copy the name, we will cancel the screens wil I go to the remote or administrative command prompt again. The command we want to enter first to see if direct printing is enabled is the following.
As soon as this field appears, you can see here on the left under Attributes that it is not displayed. There is no direct printing in it, so this particular printer does not use direct printing. So you can change it by running the following command.
So the same as before but you just change Xg to Xs and then we put Attributes + right at the end, now if we run the previous command again we will now see under Attributes that say directly, try it, and on many computers it fixes the problem, however I ran into a certain client that didn't. So what I had to do in the end is go into Devices and Printers, go back to your particular printer, view the printer properties, on the Advanced tab to check the actual driver, the Kyocera driver version 3, or the Kyocera version universal driver that caused the problem in this particular case. What I had to do is I had to completely remove this printer, go to Kyocera's website and look for a version 4 driver.
After installing the version 4 driver, the last computer that had a problem with the problem was fixed. Get your computers back to working without crashing every time you click the print icon.
