Hello, this is Gary from MacMost.com. Today I'm going to show you how to get the most out of Safari on your Mac using the Favorites bar.
MacMost is brought to you thanks to a great group of 800+ supporters. Go to MacMost.com/patreon.
You can read more about the Patreon campaign there. Take part and secure exclusive content and course discounts. The favorites bar is one of the best parts of Safari, but a lot of people don't even use it.
Let me show you a few ways you can browse more productively with Safari. To display the favorites bar, you can view and display the favorites bar. The keyboard shortcut is Shift B.
So if you want to get to it quickly and hide it again, it's important to learn this keyboard shortcut. When you go to the favorites bar, you'll see a list of links at the top. Now these links are actually in your bookmarks.
If you look under Bookmarks, you will see Favorites. The favorites list here corresponds to the favorites list that you see in the favorites bar. The idea is to bookmark your most important websites in the favorites folder.
In this way they are displayed in bookmarks, but also here in the favorites bar and in other places. It's pretty straightforward to use. If you want to go to a website just click the link there and that website will load in your current browser tab.
Adding a page to the favorites bar is also very easy. If you are on a page that you want to add, you can drag it from the address field here directly into the favorites bar. Then you will immediately be taken to edit mode, where you can edit the name.
So in most cases you will want to shorten the name. You can also just add bookmarks, bookmarks, or use the Command D keyboard shortcut. Then when adding it, make sure it is added to your favorites folder in bookmarks.
Now you can edit your favorites by going to 'Bookmarks' then 'Edit' Bookmarks. This way you can edit all of your bookmarks including the favorites folder. Here, click the view arrow, open it and see all of your bookmarks.
You can choose one. You can press the Delete key to delete them. You can click to select, then click again to edit the name.
Click here to edit the address. You can rearrange these bookmarks by clicking and dragging. You can do the same thing right from the bookmarks bar.
You can click and drag down on it. If you go down far enough and let go, it will be erased. You can also click and hold on it and you can rename it.
You can rearrange them on the bookmarks bar by clicking and dragging to the left or right. You can now also control-click, two-finger click a trackpad, or right-click a mouse and you'll get options here. For example there are renaming and editing addresses.
So you can edit the address right here in the bookmarks bar. You can also copy the address or delete it using the context menu. Instead of opening this link in the current tab, you can open it in a new tab or window.
Now a very important part of the bookmarks bar is the fact that you can have folders in it too. Here we can see that I have a message folder and a popular folder. These are part of the standard set.
So if you click here you will see that a drop down menu with multiple bookmarks appears. So instead of taking up space for each of these things in the bookmarks bar, it's just a small folder and then you choose which link you want to go to. If you go to 'Edit Bookmarks' you will see these folders here and you can work with them here to move items in, out or rearrange the items within.
You can create a new folder by selecting Favorites here and then to. go bookmark, add bookmark folder. Or Control-Click and New Folder.
You can also select a folder and run 'New Folder'. This will create a subfolder in it. For example, I can create a local message folder in my message folder.
Now when I click here you can see that I have a subfolder and I can create multiple levels of bookmarks that are easily accessible from the favorites bar. Also note that if you have a folder you can click on it and then select Open in New Tabs. This will open all bookmarks in that folder in separate tabs.
Here's a really cool feature. You can control the click and then enable the 'Replace tabs automatically' option. This will give you a small square next to the name.
When you click, any tabs you currently have open in this window will be replaced with tabs for each website here. Suppose I opened these three tabs here. Now when I click on it, those three tabs are completely replaced with all of the websites in that folder.
I can disable this, but disable it. You also have the option of using Control-click to sort by. You can sort all items in this folder by name or address.
Now you can do a lot of different things with the modifier keys. How the modifier keys work with these links and folders in the favorites bar depends on your settings in the Safari preferences and then in the tabs. So here I've set it to 'Command Click' to open a link in a new tab.
So when I click here it usually opens this link in the current tab. But if I click 'Command Click' instead, you can see that it opens in a new tab just like my setting there. When I hit the Shift key, it opens a new tab and brings that tab to the foreground.
Now if you hold down the Shift key, the link will open in a new window. So Shift Click and you could see that I now have a new window with this link on it. In addition to the toggle click to open a new window, the rule listed here is now also followed.
In this case, Command Option Click will also open in a new window, or Command Option Shift-Click will open a new window and bring the new window to the front. Command option click will open this in a new window. You don't see it, but now behind that first there is a second window with this link.
If I hold down the Shift command option and then click it, it does the same thing, but now that's the front window. Option does something completely different. The webpage will be downloaded.
So if you hit the click option, you can see that this page downloaded quickly, and you can see here that it is listed in Downloads. It only makes sense if something can be downloaded there. Suppose you have a work report in PDF format that always appears under the same link.
You can add them to your favorites bar and then click the option. The latest version of this file will automatically be downloaded to your Downloads folder. If you don't want to specify a folder here that always replaces all tabs that you can leave as a normal folder in which you can select each individual element.
But then option-click on the folder and it will replace all tabs. Interestingly, if you do this, all tabs will be returned to when you use the 'Back' button. So go back to where you were.
You can also use command click on a folder to add all of those web pages to the tabs while keeping the pages currently open. Here is the last tip I want to show you. People often say they want the little icon for the website here in the favorites bar.
Well there is no way of addressing that. But you can add emojis. For example, look at this message folder here.
I'll Control Click on it and rename it. I'll add a little newspaper emoji just before messages. Control Command Space opens the emoji and special characters viewer.
I'm looking for the news and there are a couple of newspaper icons to choose from. I will choose this one. Put a space there and now I have a little newspaper icon.
Maybe I'll rename this link for this link to the Apple website and add a little apple there. This is a great way to really add some color to your bookmarks bar, or maybe just use the emojis if you want. For example, you could take the text out there completely and just have a small emoji for that folder, or just an apple for a link to the Apple site.
As you can see, the favorites bar in Safari has a lot of features. . I often tell people who have a lot of tabs open to use the bookmarks bar instead.
Put all of your major websites there and you can simply click on them to open them in a new tab or replace the current tab with the link that appears there. You don't need to keep this website open in a tab as it's so easy to access when you have it in your favorites bar. Using folders instead of limiting yourself to a dozen links in the favorites bar allows you to organize and rearrange hundreds of folders and subfolders in the way that works best for you.

a welcome to another Windows 7 article One of the main problems people find when they switch from an older version of Internet Explorer to a newer Internet Explorer is how to get the toolbars that unfortunately appear from the top of the Internet Explorer window disappeared, but it is a happy and unfortunate event that Microsoft has decided that starting with Internet Explorer 9, the toolbars will actually be minimized to give them more space for your Internet pages, which in itself is not a bad idea as we sometimes have to have a lot of toolbars in the display area that get so small. The biggest problem with this is that the files are so hidden and display options are actually the most important of all bars or toolbars I'd say out of view and people just got lost. It's true that you can find the options with the little pinwheel area in the top right just below the have red x available what the tools are but also i want and want my maintoolbar on top, so how do you get toolbars back that were b if you upgraded internet explorer to 9 or 10 it's easy i do just have to go to the top of your window where there are no icons and right click and delete the menu bar favorites bar command bar status bar, all of which is available so if you want the menu bar, for example, just click it and there will they finally displayed your file edit favorites tools show and help In my mind this is true like the only bar that we really really need because it's the one that has all the functionality and it's cool because it's really small so doesn't really take up much space and I really think Microsoft should have kept it there when they changed the version because a lot of people just got lost and couldn't find their favorites anymore and just didn't understand and there are a lot of my customers because I'm a technician here and a lot of my customers just don't know what the little icons mean the little house, the star, the pinwheel and they are just scared to click on them and so by editing your file, viewing favorites and tools, actually your menu bar, you basically have everything So you need all the bars that are missing when you have extra bars like a google toolbar, yahoobar or whatever and you want to go back when you're up with the r right mouse click, all of your bars will not be displayed.
All you have to do is click on it for a little check mark and you will see the bar reappear at the top of the Internet Explorer window, it's not hard to get back, but you need to know how to do it and one more great little thing What is in this article is that now that I've shown you how to get your latches back, if you have unwanted toolbars that you don't want to have you can right-click in the bar, you also know how to remove them go for example if I don't want my menu bar I click and it disappears so you can play with it and just put the toolbars you want and remove the toolbars you don't want by just clicking on the list. Hope this helps you understand a little more about Windows 7 and Internet Explorer If you have any comments or questions let us know If you have articles you want to see The feature in Windows There is no one like 'I'll try the article online and hope you come back to the Windows 7 Official Channel
