How do I change the AutoCorrect language in Word?
- Open the Microsoft Word app on your web browser.
- Click the Review tab.
- Click the Spelling & Grammar (arrow) button and select the Set Proofing Language option.
- Select the new language that you want to use for proofing.
- Click the OK button.
he has ever noticed it inside, if you go ahead and sometimes type something wrong, the word will go ahead and correct it automatically, this is due to something called autocorrect.
Word takes the most commonly misspelled words and the most common spelling mistakes from them and when it detects that it will be auto-corrected we'll go ahead now and create our own auto-correct entries to benefit us. We do this by going to our office button, clicking it and going to the word options here, there we go and here we click the correction area and at the very top we see autocorrect options let's click there now, we see one here on the left List we are replacing and on the right with when you type these things they will be replaced by this one and if I scroll down a little we see what I typed there a whole bunch of words here that advance that word and automatically correct it can. Why is my AutoCorrect in a different language word?
The AutoCorrect tab of the AutoCorrect dialog box displays the language as defined at the insertion point. Select the whole document and then click Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language. In the Language dialog box, clear the "Detect language automatically" option.
It's Cindy. We got to module 3 and this is the module where we will talk about character formatting. Basically, this means that if you have letters or numbers you want to change the original look.
For example, text is usually black and has a specific size and font. You want to change this, and this is called formatting. You will see that in Module 4 we are talking about the formatting that paragraphs take over.
But now we're going to talk about character formatting. This is now Section 1, and I'd like to start this module by talking to you a little bit about the auto-correct feature and some of the options available with it. So let me go ahead and flip to a blank document and I'll show you what I'm talking about.
There are certain things that are part of what's called AutoCorrect, and let me show you some of those things. One of the most common things is that if you misspelling certain words, they will be spelled correctly for you. Theword The is a great example.
If I spell it T-E-H and watch it hit the space bar, it spells right for me. Can is another. A-C-N.
If I write it like this, it will be spelled correctly. That's because if I show you the AutoCorrect feature in a few minutes, you'll see that if it's a commonly misspelled word, and if it's on that list, there's a list of those words here it will change it for you. Fractions.
For example, if I type ½, you can see what the space looks like like ½ or ¼. Fractions are another part of AutoCorrect. How about an ordinal number? Do you know what an ordinal number is? An ordinal number is the word 1., so.
If you put spaces, the S-T will be superscripted, as they call it. Second, this is another good example. Hyperlinks too.
So if you entered an email address or website, it will automatically become a hyperlink as soon as you enter that email address or website and hit the space bar. That means that I can take my mouse and see what if I point the word it is Ctrl-click to follow the link. That said, when I hold the Ctrl key and click, I am actually going to that particular website as it is a hyperlink.
So I'm going to go ahead and delete some of this stuff. BTW, Control and the letter A will select everything and then I'll just hit Delete on the keyboard. We'll look at text selection in the next section.
So now you just know that Control-A selects everything. Here are a few other things that are part of AutoCorrect. If I type three dashes from mykeyboard like this and hit enter, I get a straight line.
So if I need several of these, I can do that multiple times and I have multiple lines. And the really cool thing about it is that you can tap on these lines. Do you see that? Otherwise, if you write the stroke like many people do, the strokes just shift and it's a big mess.
So I'll go ahead and select and delete everything. And this is how you enter bold lines. They will make underscores.
Hold down Shift, press three dashes, release Shift, and enter. And now you have a bold line. Now there are a few other lines to insert here.
If you look at the numbers at the top of your keyboard, all of the symbols won't work, but many of them will. So when I hold the Shift key and press the hash icon that is above the number three and I hit the Enter key, I get this particular line or border as it is called. Another is the stars.
If I hold Shift and the 8 has a star above it, when I notice three of them I get this special one. So that's kind of cool how that works. They can just have some really nice effects in your document.
Now let me go ahead and erase it all. I want to introduce you and show you where the AutoCorrect features are and how you can take advantage of some of them. Click the File tab and go to Options.
Below the fix on the left, you'll see the AutoCorrect options here. Now when I click on it you will see that there are a few things that are automatically checked here. That means Word will do these things for you automatically.
For example, I'm known for typing two capital letters at the beginning of a word. Microsoft Word will capitalize the second letter, and it will capitalize the first letter of a sentence for you. And we talked about it in Module 1.
Both will have exceptions and that is it. So what you will see under Exceptions is that this is a whole list of words that you can enter with a period and a space, and the next word is not capitalized. If you'd like to add one, enter it here and click the word Add.
Also the tab that says Initial Caps. There are sometimes words you want to type that have two capital letters at the beginning, such as IDs is a prime example. But when you find one you want to add, enter it here and hit add, ok.
You will also see that when we start working with tables in a later module, the first letter of everything in a table cell will be capitalized. Days of the week are automatically capitalized and also take into account the correct accidental use of the Caps Lock key. If you've turned Caps Lock off, it'll flip it for you.
Below it looks like a list of symbols. You have probably seen people typing the smileys in emails and other things by now. So enter it and it will be displayed on the right.
But if you keep coming down the list, you can see that it is a list of frequently misspelled words. The misspellings on the left, the correct spelling on the right. So when you type a word in this way, it will appear as you see it on the right.
Here are a few ways you can really take advantage of this feature. You may have some words that you misspell all the time and you spell it the same way every time. Enter your misspelling on the left and your correct spelling on the right.
You can do things like that too. If you have to type your name at the end of a letter a lot, include your initials. Let's say your initials are S-H.
Enter your full name here as it should appear. And so click on Add. Don't get too attached to these initials.
You don't need periods, capital letters or the like. So I'm going to click OK all the way and show you that when I type S-Hand it pastes the entire name. So this is a great way to use the AutoCorrect feature.
I go back to file and click on options again. When I go to Correction and back to AutoCorrect, note that if I want to remove my initials I'll just type them in on the left and they'll appear in the list here and I can just hit delete that way. So this is a great way to use this AutoCorrect feature.
Now I wanted to show you a few other quick things. Be aware of this AutoFormat as you type. I mentioned a few things to you when we typed this blank document.
I mentioned the breaks. We had guessed ½, ¼. I didn't mention this top.
What straight quotation marks mean is, when you type quotation marks, they have straight lines as opposed to smart quotes that have little curly notes at the end. Bold and internet with real formatting. That one doesn't exist here and you may never use it, but if you want a word to automatically appear in bold, just put in an asterisk, whatever the word, and an asterisk and that word will be in bold.
Here is your internet and network pass with hyperlinks. That's when I showed you how to enter the website and it automatically becomes a hyperlink. Here are your ordinals that we talked about.
And I also showed you these strokes that would give you the straight lines. This is this one. If you try some of the things I've talked about and they don't work for some reason, check if they're turned back on here.
Those are really the big things I wanted to tell you very quickly about AutoCorrect. I'll go ahead and click OK there. All I know is that you have autocorrect as an option.
You will see many of them happen automatically. And then I want to take you now to section 2 and really start talking about text selection.
How do I stop Word from changing spelling language?
Select the “Review” tab, then click on “Language -> Set Proofing Language.” Place a checkmark in the box next to “Do not check for spelling or grammar,” then click “OK.” Your selected section will get reset to ignore all spelling, grammar, and language styles.
If you printed out a copy of your document and asked a friend to proofread it, they would likely mark the mistakes in red pen and write any suggestions in the margin.
Wouldn't it be easier if you could do that? electronically? In Word you can - with two features called Track Changes and Comments. I'm going to turn on change tracking now so I can show you what I mean. To do this, go to the Review tab ...
and click Then use the Track Changes command. Now any changes I make to the document will show up as 'markup', which is Word's answer to the traditional red pen. For example, if I delete text it doesn't go away ...
it just strikes out. If I add more text, it is underlined. This allows the document owner to see what changes I've made before including them in the final draft.
You can also add comments in the margin by selecting the text you want to comment ...
then click the New Comment command. In this example, it is best to address the letter directly to the recruiting authority which is what I am going to suggest. When you're done, press the Esc key or click anywhere outside of the comment box to close it.
How does it work when you are at the other end of the document? the original author, it is up to you to accept the changes to make them permanent or to reject them if you disagree. Make that change here. Just select them with the cursor ...
then go to Accept to keep or Decline to return to your original text, you can even open the menus under the commands and see all the changes in the document at once accept or reject. I will only accept this one change. To remove comments, first select the comment field ...
and then go to the Delete command. If you have multiple comments, you can delete just the current one ...
or all at once Clear. At this point it may be helpful to show some of the markups on the side instead of in the text itself. This should make the document a little easier to read.
First, go to the Show Markup command ...
then Balloons. Now click Show Revisions in Balloons ...
and lots of the Changes are moved to the right. If you'd like to temporarily hide all changes, check out the options in the menu here. Right now we're seeing the final version of the document, but all changes and revisions are still visible.
Select No Markup ...
and the markup will disappear so we can see what the final draft could look like with all the changes. However, there is one thing things to keep in mind (and this is very important): Hiding the markup is not the same as accepting all changes. You still need to accept or reject the changes in your document before submitting the final version.
Let's say someone reviewed and edited your document but forgot to turn on Track Changes. It is still possible to accept or reject the changes made using a convenient feature called Compare. To begin, on the Review tab, click Compare ...
and then click Compare again. You will need a copy of your original document ...
as well as a copy of the revised version. When you're done, click OK. At this point, Word compares the two documents and lists the changes that were made between them.
Here is my original document ...
the version that someone else revised ...
and in the middle is the combined version with full markup, as if the Track Changes feature was on all the time. Word was able to put this together based on comparing the two documents. Now you can accept or reject the changes just like I showed you before.
All of these features can be of great help when collaborating on projects. They make it easy to track revisions and communicate ideas back and forth - so you can work on the same document with friends, family or colleagues.
How do I make Word AutoCorrect in English?
- Go to File > Options > Proofing and select AutoCorrect Options.
- On the AutoCorrect tab, select or clear Replace text as you type.
