In this tutorial, we're going to look at working with connected shapes in PowerPoint. You know I was working on a template recently and wanted a shape like this one where I joined a larger circle to smaller circles and it poses some problems so I thought I'd show you some production tips if we're doing this one of these since you can see the alignment isn't working so let's go ahead and build something from scratch so that I have a circle here a little bit smaller I have four correct circles I just put this one in here, it doesn't matter where they are now, to connect the lines, to connect the shapes, all I have to do is insert a line and we keep doing a format painter, so we have the same line shape, okay we have now our line thickness, what i will do is draw the end of the line and you will find that it has a little white anchor point by default but watch what happens when ic h Drag it into a power point shape you notice that it starts to reveal those little anchor circles and when I connect you can see I can connect lines that they snap to. You will notice the end curve transitioning into a mating end and that means it is connected to the shape so I'm going to go ahead and connect them here The nice thing about them is that they are connected so I can move the shape and the Connection Still Lasts A lot of people are going to do this, they just take the shape and connect it that way and then they take the shape and send it backwards, so we're going to send the line backwards and so now you have a little bit more control over it the correct placement of the line because this might not be perfectly centered, if i'm connected up here it's not centered but i can actually take it here and center it or you know move the line anywhere i want to make that works, the only challenge is if I want to postpone this I have to take this and postpone it too so it takes a few extra clicks in the process nd, by connecting them I don't need to worry that I can go ahead and move them where I want, so let's connect the other lines and then some other problems will arise.
I'm going to take these forms here. Take this scan, connect them and you can already see I'm suddenly running out of connectivity points for my diagram here and we're going to do another one so I'm kind of left up to the whim where PowerPoint adds the connectivity now. This provides another way of working with the connections, in a way that people would work to align these things the way they would.
So for example these circles are not aligned and I want the circles here, so want I don't move them to align them when it makes a line here that it separates them, if I somehow get in the middle and you can be kind of eyeballit because you have this crosshair so you can focus on and me came here and centered it I'm going to get a pretty close to the center line so I'm going to get the right look and then I can send that backwards lose ng or disconnect so if I have to move that it won't connect, but that's not too big a deal. The other thing you can do when you don't put text on the shapes just add text over the shapet and reconnect those lines, the other thing you can do is move these circles around by dragging them just rotate so you get pretty good at what you want here and you can just rotate the circles and that works fine as long as you don't add text to the shape. So what if I add text? Because I rotated it you can also see the text rotating so I would have to get rid of that and then I would just put a text box over the shape and just put some text here which I kind of like to do because that's what I get Bit gives more control over the padding of this circle because when I work in the circle I am kind of constrained due to the edges of the circles, but if I put a text box above it I can somehow move the text box where I want so it is spins what works now, here's a bonus tip, although I rarely do because it runs into other issues when you right click a shape and edit points you'll find that you have those anchor points.

The only challenge with working with these edit points is that you may inadvertently move the point outward and take your shape, which usually happens on the circles, because once you add a point, a little bulge is pulled out, so just something to keep in mind so you can add points that I don't normally do that I just? find it easier to either move these around manually or to rotate the shapes and get them in place, and then the other bonus tip would be to just put your text on the shape instead of in the shape and that gives you more freedom, to work with your text

Hello friends and welcome to another tutorial of Word 2016 and in this article we are going to talk about another Microsoft Word drawing tool, which is editing points or editing shape points and using connectors that you can find in the Format menu after creating a shape Edit Points is a quick and easy way to make certain changes to predefined shapes or shapes you've created with the Freeform Shape tool. So let's first draw any shape from the Insert Shapes drop-down menu and click Edit Shape on the Format menu at the bottom of the menu and then click Edit Points. When you click the Edit Points option, you can immediately see that all 6 white circular shape connectors change to 4 dark black square connectors and you are now ready to edit the shape.
The default behavior when using Edit Points is corner points and therefore you will see 4 black squares on each side of the rectangle. I mean, let's say if I draw a triangle and then use the Edit Points command then there are 3 black squares on each side of the triangle. How many edit points appear depends on the shape and corners in the shape, or you can say the connection point in the shape.
Now you can hold any point and drag it to the desired position. If you drag and drop a point, you can immediately see that 2 white circles appear next to that point. You can use those white circle points to curve that particular corner then you can also easily add a new point at a particular location by simply dragging and dropping it.
To remove an additional point, you can right-click on this point and select Delete Point from the context menu. You can also add a new point by right-clicking a specific location and then selecting Add Point from the context menu. Editing points is very useful when you are using Paste Freeform from Shapes.
You can freeform a rough sketch first and later change the points to make them more consistent. Another interesting feature you might find useful when editing points is changing the point style. As I said earlier, the default style is Corner Points, but if you want you can also change a specific point to Straight or Smooth style by right-clicking on it to give a shape a new look, you can also use the Use the Open and Close Path commands.
For example, let's say I'm drawing a rectangle here and I want to turn that rectangle into a legend I can right-click one of the corners and then click OpenPath. Now I can drag this point to a new position and later select Close Path in the context menu. Open and Close Path is also useful when working with freeform; suppose, while drawing a freeform shape, you accidentally forget to intersect the last point to completely close the shape.
Instead of redrawing the entire shape, you can right-click the last point and choose Close Path from the context menu to make the last point abut with the closest point. So it was about editing shapes with points. Before I finish this lesson, I want to tell you about another interesting drawing function called Connections.
Connections are used to draw a line between two shapes and to connect both shapes together. If you open the Insert Shape drop-down menu and hover over the shapes available under Lines, you will find certain types of connectors here. Keep that in mind that it is easy to connect two shapes with connectors in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and very useful when you need to draw a flowchart manually.
Pick any type of connector inside the lines then move your mouse over a shape and you will see blue dots appear. Click on one of the blue dots where you want to start the connection and then draw a line over the second shape and connect it to one of the blue dots on the second shape. If you now move one of the shapes, the connectors move accordingly.
However, if you m across a shape after a connection, the connected line will move accordingly, but if you've placed one of the shapes in a completely different direction you can open the Edit Shapes drop-down menu and click Redirect Connector. That way, you don't have to delete a connector and redraw it. However, if you try to do the same task in Microsoft Word, to your surprise, you won't see any blue dots when you try to draw a connector over the first shape.
This is because the connectors don't behave the same way they do in Excel and PowerPoint. To use connectors in Microsoft Word, you must first insert a new artboard and then draw shapes within the canvas. Now you can easily connect two shapes with one of the line connectors, here everything revolved around the use of points and connectors.
