>> A big advantage of a device like Surface that we develop at Microsoft is that we also have a great team of developers working on tools to create solutions that will help you manage and troubleshoot these devices over the long term . >> One of the largest is the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit for Business. This tool is extremely versatile and far-reaching as it was developed by our surface engineering team.
So it delves deep into the hardware and software. If it's Microsoft software, it actually repairs things like Windows Update, the entire office suite. It will take a look at these challenges you face and this tool can solve them.
It will of course check everything hardware-wise and repair everything that is with your file system on the computer. just a very wide range of fixes that can all be applied at once. >> Yes, and you mentioned that there is a wide range of fixes.
If there's just a certain set of troubleshooting steps that you know or think you need to follow, the great thing about SDT for Business is that you can now create custom packages so you can be very specific about which steps to take Troubleshooting you want to perform. This will really help you spot the problem. Here is the step to create a custom package.
This will help you create your custom executable file that you can send to end users so that if someone in accounting has a problem with their Surface laptop all you have to do is send them that EXE and they will get the reports back. >> Also, remember how easy it is. Somebody contacts the help desk, they say, hey I have a problem, I want to solve this, here is what I am experiencing.
You just instruct it, click on it and it will fix it. It's just an amazing solution that is unique to Surface. >> Yes, absolutely.
So what we're going to go through now is the custom packaging that sets your language. Here you can also choose whether or not you want to assign the device as part of the troubleshooting steps. We've already talked a little about how important updates are to keep these devices bug-free in the long term.
However, if you're using Windows Update for Business, you can have it point to your own Windows Update server or turn off checking for Windows updates. >> There are a few preset software troubleshooters that you can also configure as part of this standard package , one of them is of course the component memory displayed there. This will clean up the Windows SxS, which is difficult to pronounce, folders and will help reduce some storage space.
You will also see the option to repair any file system corruption as I mentioned earlier and that does this neat check on Windows without having to go into Command Prompt separately and run the File System Checker, we have that too, of course Ability to reinstall Microsoft Store, sometimes it can be deleted, now it is not imposed, so if you purposely deleted Microsoft Store there is no need to o add it again but it does give you that ability. It's the only thing you can't get from the store due to chicken and egg problems. Then there is system health recovery, of course, and it goes far, but does it really rely on Windows Update to make sure this computer is healthy? Does he have everything he needs? If there is a damaged file, they can contact the update server and get a fresh copy of that system file and make sure the device is fine and working properly. >> Logs are a really great way to dig deep into the problem that might be on this device after you go through these troubleshooting steps.
If you need to return your device for a warranty claim, this can be very helpful for our in-house team to receive these logs as well so that we can continue to help troubleshoot problems in the future. So on this page you can choose which protocols you want to create as part of this SDT.>> Slides six and seven are now just ornaments: what to call them, where do you want it to live, and then of course the option to create another one, all with the same tool.
This is how we can create this lovely custom package that you can give to a user and say, 'Hey, you'. Do you have this problem? Try it, it will solve it for you, but what about just, we don't know what the problem is and we just want to run this tool? The SDT tool, as we briefly call it, is extremely powerful. In fact, we get many devices back that are marked defective during our warranty replacement process.
This is part of the steps we take on these devices, and for a large chunk of the devices we get back, the issues are completely resolved after we simply run this tool. So it can reduce your support costs and tickets if we just run this tool first before you submit this claim. So let's briefly discuss how this program works. >> Yes.
So, right here on the welcome screen, just a generic welcome screen here. There's also a post there to let us know what you think after you've used the tool a little. We'd love to hear your feedback.
We always try to improve these tools as much as possible. The next step is for the new SDT for Business to check for updates. Previously you had to specifically go back to toaka.ms/toolsforit to download the new version and check internally to make sure you are aware of all the new devices that are in the market. >> You will then be greeted with the option to select, what we are doing today.
Do we want to do every single test? “Do you know a little bit about what we are trying to do? So this is where you can choose your options, as you do each test you get this really nice view of the health check red and green and other color codings that are very clear and where possibly Problems arise If you have the option to solve for them immediately, not all problems of course, but those for whom it is able to solve them, even this repair will be done automatically. >> Yes, absolutely. Also, you will see there that there is an option to quickly open the log file so if there is a red flag you might be able to correct it right away, which would be great. >> Now this is being made available as part of our Surface Tools for IT and you can access it by visiting aka.ms/toolsforit.
When you go there you will see a wide variety of different programs and this is part of your homework part of your homework is to go there, try it out, and give us your opinion. On the slide here, you see firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is our listening mechanism to hear from you, the frontline people who are actually using this in an organization. Does it have the tools you need? Are there Things you would like to do that currently aren't? We'd like to hear from you and are making those adjustments to the program as needed. So the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit is a very powerful tool made by our Surface Engineering team for you, the people who are responsible for supporting so many of our devices.
We want to make sure you have the tools you need to do your job effectively, and that the users who get Surface have less downtime and can be productive every day.
Will Office 2010 still work after October 2020?
Support for Office 2010 ended on October 13, 2020 and there will be no extension and no extended security updates. All of your Office 2010 apps will continue to function. However, you could expose yourself to serious and potentially harmful security risks.
- Austin, I have Windows 11. (Dramatic Music) - What do you mean? - I have Windows 11. Look, it's Windows 11! - Oh, this leaked, you can't - What what? - I have to do it! illegal. - Want to be an accomplice? - No.
There is article evidence of that. I don't want anything to do with it. Windows 11 is almost here and it will make your games better.
So there aren't all functional builds of Windows 11 floating in the air right now Internet around but there is also a big Windows event next week where they tease some big new features. (Austin coughs) Windows 11. It's Windows 11, surprise surprise.
What comes after 10? So this stuff was teased pretty badly. Not only did Windows Channel recently post a suspiciously long 11-minute article with slow Windows startup noises that sound very bizarre - Sounds like bagpipes. (Austin hums) (Austin laughs) - Oh no, no! - If those teasing aren't subtle enough for you Microsoft has also listed end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025.
So you know the latest version of Windows 10 that currently running by everyone, oh yes that will be gone. Historically, getting people to upgrade to a newer version of Windows is not an easy task. Six years later, only about 78 percent of people are still using Windows 10, with a lot of people still using something like Windows 7 or Vista.
There are still people who use Vista. But if you look at Gamersit, this is actually a much faster ramp, 0.96 percent of Steam users using Windows 10 at this point, which is actually pretty impressive.
But if you think Windows 10 will only be supported for a few more years, then you need to move to 11 quickly. And I don't think there is going to be a massive overhaul. There will be some major upgrades for sure, but we actually already have an idea of what Windows 11 will look like.
Except for all the leaks because they've been talking about it for a while. There are two sides to the Sun Valley upgrade. First and foremost, the leaked builds of Windows 11 are in circulation.
But beyond that, there are also plenty of features in Windows 11 that are actually available right now if you're a Windows insider. Now these leaks are confirmed by Baidu with some screenshots from The Verge. It seems like Windows Central is actually running this on a surface.
These are certainly not completed versions of Windows 11 that I'm assuming will ship later this year. But they do give us a glimpse of some of the most important new features; namely the fact that the taskbar has now actually been centered, very much like what a Dave2D article recommended. As well as things like new icons and even these showing that there is directly Windows 11 Pro-like names out there is a brand new version of Windows.
What this really reminds me of is actually something on the Mac OS side. So last year there were Mac OS 11 Big Sur changes under the hood, but for most people it was a visual overhaul. Well, that's obviously something we'll see at least partially on Windows 11.
In fact, a lot of the UI stuff we see not just with things like new animations, new icons, and some different redesign features reminds me a lot of Windows 10 X. If you're not familiar now, this was a more modern version of Windows, a more mobile version of Windows. They originally started talking about a couple of years ago.
This was originally intended to be rolled out on devices like dual-screen devices. It would look almost like Chrome books. But ultimately it sounds like they closed that down to Much of this modern user interface only bring the mainstream version of Windows.
And it really shows. This strategy makes sense to me. Windows 10 X never really felt like it was the future.
I mean obviously they always have to try to update and improve Windows. You can't just run Windows 10 or Windows 11 forever. But what I think is a little worrying is some of the mobile features that are invading the major version of Windows.
That might sound strange, because obviously Windows has a long history of supporting a wide range of hardware I think there is a bit of a concern. Not so much for me, but I think for a lot of people who see these screenshots worried about Windows 11 being watered down. That's less than Windows 10.
That it is, oh that's so, you know the 80 percent version of Windows. I don't think that's necessarily true. I think it makes a lot of sense for Microsoft to develop an operating system that will run from $ 100 on anything from a Chromebook competitor to a high-end gaming PC.
And of course the wide range of hardware that lies in the middle. But I think we have to be realistic here. Most people use mobile devices these days.
And when you have all of these features on your iPhone and on your Android device, people expect it to work on the desktop side of the laptop or the tablet side of things - when little Timmy grows up with an iPad, he has to use something that is a little more intuitive than he is used to - yes. But before we get into that, let's talk about the potential Windows 11 capabilities that we know will be in the next version of Windows. See, I said one thing the TikTokers say, I'm cool again.
No cap. So there are some major improvements for gamers. Primarily starting with HDR support.
Now, HDR isn't exactly a new feature for Windows. At this point, however, it's a bit of a patchwork quilt. Different monitors, different applications support HDR at different levels, and switching between them has never been particularly smooth and consistent.
That should be a lot more seamless with this new version of Windows, however. In addition, there is much better support for multiple GPUs in the system. No no, I'm not talking about some crossfire SLI sets u p.
We're mostly referring to the fact that Windows has much finer control when they say you have built-in graphics and dedicated graphics like a laptop or one Have desktop. Imagine playing a lighter title like Among Us, which you don't necessarily have to run at 400 frames per second. You can specifically run this on integrated graphics which would give you a much better battery life.
It's nice to have this built right into Windows now. Now, Windows 11 clearly absorbs a lot of the look and feel of Windows 10 X, which was again the more mobile version of Windows. But there are also some features that it will take as well.
Think things like voice input, something that's pretty standard on iOS and Android, will come to Windows 11 there are some better security features out there. Of course, you can still download and run games that you want or apps that you want. And beyond that, there is one more function that I forgot.
What is that mate? - Touch screen. - Touchscreen. Well this isn't new.
But you can get better touchscreen support in Windows 11 now as the mobile future is here. There are some other updates that I think are good. Support for virtual desktops have been redesigned.
So not only can you better support multiple monitors, you can even have different desktop backgrounds for each of your virtual desktops. In addition, there are many minor things right. So there's better camera support like your web settings are now displayed right in the Windows settings screen.
There is a new font that seems to look better? I think they look the same or about the same. You can also restart Windows and restart your apps at the same time; in fact, Mac OS has been doing this for a long time. But when you restart, is it like opening all of your apps the same way as before? There's a better clipboard manager out there.
They support emojis, they moved the disc manager from the old school tool-- - The emojis. Oh my god. - I know it's very revolutionary. - Yes, I'm tired of copying and pasting smileys.
I only add text smileys. (Austin laughs) - Okay, look, there are a lot of updates to Windows 11. But I think the big question is what is Windows doing? 11 really? They have a few secrets.
And we have to wait another week to find out. - Maybe I have the build. - What's up with you.
Got a leaked version of Windows? - Maybe I did. I could - - Well I would never use a leaked version of Windows. I.
Why should I do this? Look how clean my hands are right now. I love our friends on the Windows team and appreciate all the effort they go into to do. If Ken wants to deal with the dark side, that's none of my business.
So for the record, I would never tolerate anyone using leaked supposedly authentic software. But Ken, how is Windows 11 doing? (upbeat music) I theoretically hypothetical.- Hypothetical.- Hypothetical.- I think he would theoretically say it is more or less the same. (Austin laughs) - That's it - All right, look. - Thank you for watching.
Make sure to subscribe to the channel to get more or less the same thing. - Look, look. The builds that are out there right now and leaked aren't really that much - you know time is moving as you know time is moving.
But at the moment I saw a lot of things that I may or may not have seen. - hypothetical. - hypothetical.
Are more or less visual. So there is obviously a new direction going in a lot cleaner, a lot more rounded shapes in terms of the buttons, and a lot more transparency and color. It's very user friendly.
It looks very shiny. It takes a lot of queues, maybe not specifically from the Mac, but I think now it's a little bit more from toe to toe or - - Absolutely - from head to toe, head to head? - From head to toe. Head to head? These all work.
They are all good. - Yes Yes okay. - Aside from any potential knowledge we may or may not have about the actual leaked version of Windows 11, I think there are some things we can speculate about.
Because obviously this hasn't been announced yet, things we almost certainly know, whether it's because of the leaked build or if it's the Windows inside stuff I want to talk about, are the things we expect. Because I'm just going to be playing my cards here, I don't think it's a big surprise, Windows 11 should be a free update. Now I don't know-- - I would hope so - I don't know, they could charge it.
They could be $ 20 or whatever it seems to me that we are almost stepping past the era of operating system update fees. I mean, even remember when Windows 10 first came out, that was a free upgrade for a lot of people if you had something newer, seven or eight system or whatever, can I beat you with something this is absolutely not going to happen, but I want it to happen? - What is it? - Can I run Windows 11 on an Xbox? - I would like to run Windows 11 on Xbox the way I wanted Windows 10 to run on the Xbox Series X.- Well, here's the one.
It's not going to happen because Microsoft wants to sell Xboxes and not feast on high MPC sales. But I mean, how cool would it be if you bought a $ 500 Series X and it came with Windows. I mean, it's already running Windows kind of like it's definitely physically possible. - Okay, now let's go into less speculation-- - Speculative talk, no, that's speculative talk. - Well, no no no no no no no.
So we're going less into the speculation town and we're going into more of the things we want to expect from Windows 11. - Yes, it is, it is. - And I'd love to see Windows run on an Xbox.
Now imagine the dedication they put into the Surface and Windows integration, and that's only for the Xbox. For gamers, imagine seeing AirDrop for Windows. Now there are third party tools, there is bluetooth blah blah blah.
I just want something as simple as AirDrop on Windows. - Yeah, for the last time, we're not saying real AirDrop. We just say - - No, I say that.
I want AirDrop.Reverse to develop it. - There is a.
There is a lot wrong with that. - Come on, I'm sure it's not that difficult! - No, no, but it is, look. You ideally know something that works with iOS and Android, that can put files on Windows or between Windows devices, or you know whatever might have you.
That would be really cool on a daily basis. And that's probably one of the main reasons I'm tied to Mac OS in the first place. Especially when I do things like content creation.
I want to take photos on my phone and move them around in Photoshop. I want to Record articles my phone, move them to Windows to work in Resolve or Premiere, right? - You can do some of this because it was either with the app or the 'My Windows' app or whatever it is? - What I've never used in my life, I should probably try at some point just to make the point, but. - It works fine, Samsung stuff integrates pretty well.
But I want something that is a bit more seamless across the board. Right, AirDrop is a big part of how we get our jobs done. And it kind of locks us up.
A kind of AirDrop under Windows would be nice. Beyond that, but I mean, File Explorer still seems old like what we're looking at right now. - Oh, look, I hate that this article is a comparison between Mac OS and Windows.
You click the magnifying glass in the Finder, type in what you want, and find it. In File Explorer, it does exactly the opposite. It gives you all the registry file, every tiny nook and cranny in the System 32 that you don't need. - This is the comparison that Finder uses to help you find things, Explorer helps you to explore. (Drum beat) (both laugh) - That's the best explanation you've made in your entire life - Here's the real question - Do I like Mac OS more? Yes - Okay, that wasn't my question, but I think that answers my question to subscribe to the channel for other hot rumors and leaks.
And also let the doorbell ring so that you will always be notified the next time Ken has a very, very bad recording. I only have that - No, there are only a few bad recordings, I just say. Hypothetically speaking.
How do I repair Office 2010 installation?
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, right-click on Microsoft Office 2010, and select Change. On the next screen select Repair and Microsoft Office will go through and do a repair and hopefully that will get you up and running again.
Hi everyone, I'm Shane from the admin arsenal. Let's uninstall Office 2010 from our computers. The instructions here will work pretty well with Office 2007 in 2013 as well, and we'll focus on installing the 32-bit version of Office 2010 for this example, but we'll do it from both 64- and 32-bit - or on 32- and 64-bit computers.
There are a few things you need to know if you have a PDQ inventory that you may have been using. I go to our Office2010 collection the bits here I Cal were 32 and the other two computers are 64 if you were actually going to go into the application window of one of these windows you would see Office in this case Professional Plus 2010, now there is an uninstall string, if you used PDQ inventory to uninstall before uninstalling you know that usually you can just right click and say you need to uninstall to provide the silent parameters, but something is missing and that makes the Installation of Office a bit difficult Requirements that you have to meet first you have to know the path of the Office installation on the target computer in this case the important part is Office 14, this is for Office 2010 and if you then scroll over here you can see the Uninstall forward slash there is now Pro Plus This may vary This is the product id as product code as well whatever you want to call it Uninstalling requires you to have the right value for it so you know whether you have Standard Office or Enterprise Office, it could all be different. Hopefully most have the same value in your company, so know we think it's Pro Plus now.
If you don't have inventory, there are a few things you can do to find out what that value is when you move to a computer with office 2010 and gold, maybe I'm going to the C drive of Aikau here and going to Program Files and it will be Program Files x86 if you're on a 64-bit machine because remember we're talking if you want to go beyond the 32-bit office, go into common files Microsoft released and let's scroll down here down office 14 and then office setup controller and here you need to do a little due diligence. You can see I see ProPlus there. Don't worry about Excel or the OneNote values look for something that sticks out like this Pro Plus, that's what we're looking for.
Here's how to do it, if you don't have any inventory in Pro mode, go ahead and close iCalfor for the moment and inventory. So once we have that you want to create an XML file it is generally called configdot XML and I have one that we need to deploy on the target computers as part of the uninstall process on our network share it's just a very simple XML file I will be using open them and you can only see four lines that you open and then it is very important that the display level is none. You want that to be set to none Completion notification is no, you can see suppressed modal is yes and accept the EULA is also yes I also added a setup reboot id with the value never because at least you don't.
I don't want this to just restart after uninstalling, you can differentiate and then close it perfectly without the slash configuration so I can act that out on a network share and then I have a package, it's a very simple one PDQ Deployment Package I Made I deleted the installation step, the standard installation step that usually comes with a new package, and I replaced it with two command steps to get a command step. Just click the new step button in your package window so I need to uninstall Office on 64-bit I have the x86 variable common program files and then the 32-bit search for common program files only. I set the conditions to 32-bit in this step and 64-bit obviously in this one, so we got this command setup notification that in the additional files I also added this config.xml, but I just pointed it out that all I want to do is add files, paste this path into this configuration, which X and I will copy to the target during the uninstall, and then the uninstall string will look like it did when you did in PDQinventory, except we added a slashconfig .
I'm going to make this a little wider so hopefully it will be a little easier to read. We added a slash configuration parameter and a space and then added the path to the config.xml file which is the path to the destination we are using the built-in invariable CD that stands for currentdirectory because this is copied to the working directory of your deployment o to the PDQ inventory and look in your office for 2010 but I know which one I'm going to do I will do the computer winland and I will do it perfectly and we will now meet the deployment 2 minutes 2 to 10 minutes or even longer so see it looks like it started on Winland and started on Aikau if you like, just so you can get an idea of what we're looking for there.
I'm going back to inventory for a moment and I'm going to open the AI cow, I'm going to go to the admin dollar share, which is the windows directory on a target computer in that windows. You will see Admin Arsenal deploy PDQ Runner, which is not required to uninstall, I'm just doing this to show you what's going on Underneath, under the scenes that go to service, and you see an Exec folder and this is the two files we moved to the destination. There is the CMD command which is really just the body of your command that you will see - the formatting was that that was the command step and then there is the config.xml file that was dragged from the file share to be copied down and working you can see Windland is the 64-bit version so is running the 64-bit version while Aikaui is running the 32-bit version works i want iCal done i really want to shout something when you're in notice the installation steps or the command steps, forgive me the success codes that I added 0 16 41 and 30 10 it's pretty important as these are actually seen as successes as well when you create your command step, it all comes down to 0 by default you want to add 16 41 and 30 10.
These are just microsoftinstaller exit codes which means 30 10 means it was successful but it needs to be restarted target needs to be restarted 1641 means it was successful and it is sc is about to restart so if we would go, let's take a look, i know, for sure number 2 is done, it returned 30 10 as i configured that to scan these computers as soon as they are done and you can see them not there are more in the Office 2010 collection look for the product code find out what it is and you should be good for everyone i'm an arsenal i'm Shane i have a good guy
How do I repair Microsoft Word 2010?
- In Windows, click on the Start button, then Control Panel.
- Click on Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Right-click on Microsoft Office 2010 and choose Change.
- Click on Repair, then Continue. Let the repair finish, restart your computer and see if there's any improvement.
In the end, we'll quickly space an entire document from the Paragraph dialog box in Word for Microsoft 365.
The steps are the same in Word 2019 and Word 2016, and similar for Word 2013 and Word 2010. However, your user interface may look slightly different in these older versions of the software. To begin with the basic method, select the Home tab on the Ribbon, and while not required, I highly recommend selecting the Show / Hide button in the Paragraph group to see paragraph break symbols and other formatting that affects line spacing Next, select the text to be changed with the required line spacing.
Then choose the Line and Paragraph Spacing button in the Paragraph group. There, select an option from the drop-down menu: The numbers 1.0 through 3.0 add spaces between the lines.
Adding spaces before paragraphs and removing spaces after paragraphs adjust the space above and below paragraphs, but does not change the space within paragraphs. These three options are based on your current font size, with 1.0 being a single spacing.
Your changes will be applied immediately. Note that you can apply custom line spacing, which is the numbers 1.0 to 3.0, and paragraph spacing to the same text to further customize your results.
If you previously selected the Show / Hide button, you can select it again to hide paragraph symbols and other formatting again - method choose the Home tab on the ribbon again. Then select the Show / Hide button in the Paragraph group if you want to see paragraph break symbols and other formatting that may affect line spacing, then select the text with the line spacing you want to change. Note that with this method, PC users can press Ctrl + A to select the entire document if the entire line spacing need not be changed, including headings, tables, table titles, captions, tables of contents, and reference lists.
Now choose that Dialog Launcher in the Paragraph group. Then make the necessary changes in the Paragraph Spacing Before dialog box: The Before and After boxes represent the spaces above and below the paragraphs, measured in points, with one point being 1/72 of an inch. Use the increment arrows to select an integer, or type a number with a decimal point directly into the box.
The Line Spacing drop-down menu has six options: Single creates a single spacing based on your current font size. '1.5 Lines' creates a space of one and a half as large as your current font size. 'Double' creates double spacing based on your current font size.
Minimum determines the minimum distance between the lines based on the number of points entered in the At field. Exactly creates an exact distance between the lines based on the number of points entered in the At field. And Multiple creates the distance multiplied by the number you entered in the At box.
For example, if you type three in the At box, your distance is three times the current single distance. The last option is 'Don't add a space between paragraphs of the same style'. For many users, this removes spaces between all paragraphs as common documents usually only have one paragraph style.
Notice that the preview box updates as you make adjustments in the Spacing section. Choose the OK button to close the Paragraph dialog box button earlier, you can select it again to hide paragraph symbols and other formatting. One of the most common questions I get is how do you add a space to an entire document using the Paragraph dialog box we used in the previous section.
First, select the Home tab on the ribbon. Then select the entire document. Note that PC users can press Ctrl + A to make the selection.
Select the dialog box launcher in the Paragraph group. When the Paragraph dialog box appears, type zero in the Before box in the Spacing section. And zero in the After field.
Then select Simple from the Line spacing drop-down menu. Select the OK button, and the companion blog post for this article, listing all of the steps we just followed, will appear onerinwrightwriting.com linked below.
Feel free to leave me a comment if you have a specific topic on Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat I want to talk about myself in the future. And please subscribe to my channel and give this article a thumbs up if you found it helpful. Thank you for that Watch!
