Groove music sucks - comprehensive handbook

Is groove music any good?

Groove Music has the potential to be a strong contender in the streaming music space, with its satisfying audio quality, deep library, and easy-to-navigate interface. But some of the missing elements—lyrics, a family plan, a fully fleshed out free version, the ability to browse by genre—may deter hardcore music fans.

- Let's talk briefly about groove and try to more or less define what it is.

And I think a great way to start this conversation is by making a distinction. The difference between perfect playing on the grid and groove. For me the difference is this.

Playing perfectly on the grid means that if you have a 1/8 note grid like this one and play a beat over it, every note you play, whether it's a kick or a snare or a hihat or a combination Everything you play is placed exactly somewhere on this grid. And by exactly I mean exactly. So if we zoom in on this hihat hit, for example, it shouldn't be here, but right here on the line, no matter how far we zoom in, that goes for all the notes we play.

Of course, if at some point we zoom in far enough and move a note a little off the line, we won't hear the difference because the change is so small that our brain can't perceive it, it's like we can't see bacteria, but that doesn't change the theoretical concept of playing f perfectly on the grid. Now let's see what groove means. This has a lot to do with playing on the grid, but in many cases it doesn't require you to play perfectly on the grid.

It just means that you are consistent in what you do. Let's take another look at that perfectly on the raster image. And now we're going to move that snare hit a little further back.

If we only did this once here, it would likely sound inconsistent, sloppy, or like a mistake. But if you repeat the pattern like this, and I move every single snare stroke exactly the same, there is a consistency in the delay of the snare and after a few iterations that late snare just becomes part of the groove, and that groove may sound awesome , maybe even a lot hotter than if everything were perfectly in the grid. Now we can go one step further and, for example, play every fourth hihat a little softer.

That affects the groove too, not because of the timing of the note, but because of the difference in dynamics and that's just as important. Now of course we can make a lot more small variations in the placement and volume of the notes. For example, we can delay every second snare strike instead of all, or we can soften every other hihat, which often happens.

And these are all examples to illustrate a point and by no means a formula for a great groove. The formula for a great groove would boil down to something like the perfect combination of consistent variations, both larger and smaller, over both shorter and longer periods of time, during a song, over all the parts and instruments played in that particular song become. And don't worry if this turns your head around now.

Better yet, forget about this formula completely because it doesn't matter. Playing and learning to groove on time is not a theory or formula to stick to. It's about a feeling.

And that's exactly why I believe this in this day and age, with all the computers and quantization options available to us, the fastest, most reliable way to create the drumbeat groove is still the same as it was a few decades ago. You have to make sure that it is played by a good drummer. He or she will intuitively add hundreds of variations in volume and spacing between notes and between bars, and those variations will have good consistency, piecing all these imperfections together into something that makes us dance, or at least think brings, damn, that's just such groovy shit if you're interested in becoming a drummer like that, you'll be delighted to hear that I've come up with some great lessons to make this happen, and all of those lessons are part of one brand new course on my website, questforgroove.com that goes by the name Over and Over again, so if you're interested in improving your timing learn how to groove, how to become one of those drummers who just sit down and Playing a drum track that seems to glue everything together In an almost magical way, this is the course for you.

And you can click on the map for more information or just click the link in the description below to go straight to the course on questforgroove.com. I hope to see you there and I also hope to see another article here on this channel next week.

Is groove music better than Windows Media Player?

Groove Music is one of the apps optimised for Microsoft's Continuum* initiative and is likely to get updates more frequently than Windows Media Player. All things aside, Groove Music sounds better than Media Player.

everyone, it's Bachi here from Recordingstudio 9.com and thanks for joining us again, it's a wonderful day here in Sydney and I hope you have a nice day too today I'll show you how I like Cake Box Music Creator 7 will use to import a MIDI song file into it and then use the internal sound module sound system without using external keyboards or sound sources, or even loop the wave files to create a song and arrange it , and then we can add a track of our vocals later and sing into it and of course have our own song, a midi file means you can add, subtract from and rearrange it whenever you really need it, so you have the flexibility to making the song your own if you like let's go ahead and I'll show you on the screen how I'm going to import the midi file and give these midi notes some Sounds but first I have to have my sip of espresso coffee so I can really enjoy the music we're making and feel really refreshed ed in midi song file download plus three and a half dozen websites have just been listed and I picked the one which looked good enough so I went in there and looked for midi songs and found something you know people would like to sing Frank Sinatra at Night Stranger I thought this was a good choice.

I've never sung this song before so we'll see how it actually goes, but before we load it into the music of 7, I'll just double-click it and leave it open in Windows Media Player so we can hear what it is sounds like if there is a good selection of what we are looking for, when you find a midi file to make sure you know it is nicely arranged, not the sound what we are looking for the arrangement, or us too, because we're going to replace the sound with Solets anyway, just listen to what it sounds like, okay, it's not a bad arrangement, it's beautiful and fully arranged, then it sounds pretty okay, now the sounds obviously aren't getting be so good, you know they sound really electronic because what the media player is trying to do is use the general midi sounds like synthesized sound from windows so they don't sound very full and you know we'll be replacing those sounds n, but the arrangement sounds good, yeah, that's nice and full of arrangements, so yeah, that's what we have to do, you're going to turn that into really good sounds using the Music Creators, even okay now that we have musiccreator let's run seven let's create a new project let's click create a new project let's give it a name let's call it strangers at night should be fine let's click ok now we have a default project open now we have to go first load the MIDI file, because if you win we always have to delete this track so that we can start over, we don't need any of it at the moment so that we have a nice, clean desktop, we go to the file and then import MIDI click and go to the music from Mylibrary and there it is and we click open, so now the whole file of the M The IDI song has been loaded and this is just one kind of them we can do the whole tra ck see and we have you know you know that this well-written bass string melody guitar guitar is two more string premolar strings horns drums brass flute a piano so it's pretty full on miditrack which is pretty cool which quite a few today Tracks are, of course when we click play we won't hear anything because there are no audio or sound instruments connected to these MIDI tracks and there they are, so only the MIDInotes are played, but no instruments, no players, so it will not working Next we had to do something and in Music Creator 7 it's really very simple, there is one instrument we can add that actually has pretty much all the instruments we need in General MIDI, up to sixteen tracks of them loaded automatically and we can find the area in the browser if we go to Sint and then click on the plus sign to add and then insert Sint and we we're looking at a CakewalkTTS - one with the CakewalkTTS - one that lets us load pretty much everything at once. Here we go I'll click and you'll see what I mean, so now we've got this window open which looks like up to sixteen Tracks with each individual track volume that they have a chorus setting and a panorama setting a With the left and right settings you can even preview some of the sounds, so that the sounds that are already entered there by default are general MIDI and this TTS are - one of them is operated by Roland, so all Roland Soundcanvas sounds are in there for general MIDI - so if we click with this button here we can preview which sound will come from the day ok, this is a piano sound of the TTS and then you can see that channel 10 is also the drum track by default which is the default channel in a General MIDI to have the drums, so listen w ir to thedrums, these are pretty good drum sounds but you know they are all pianos and we can choose and i will show you later how to choose different sounds but depending on the quality of the midi file you if you have downloaded, when you start playback you know that all these sounds should automatically select the correct one because if it has the system information for each of the tracks what sounds to use it will be selected automatically but we will find out later what we have to do for it We have loaded our sound module synthesizer. We need to indicate if this has not yet been done, i.e.

each of those MIDI tracks where the MIDI notes should be sent, and to find out more about that we'll go into this section here as you can see that this is our input and this is our output and because we have already added the Cakewalk TTS sound synthesizer there, it has already selected the output as this and we can click the arrow and it is already selected and that's the only one that is really cool at the same time is when we added this synth module it should also have added four new tracks and yes it has tracks 13 14 15 and 16 and these are different tracks these are audio output tracks as we can identify each track to know What kind of tracks it is, we can see the symbols. The symbols here you can see that this 5-pin dynaction is like an old MIDI connection of the medium and a keyboard, which means that it is a MIDI-to-audio output track, which is again different from an audio track . So let's select the last one and say insert audio track, as you can now see the audio track icon looks like audio and later we can use that track to record vocals so we can easily go, you know that You are ahead and call it singing, so our input from MIDI is also our sound module, which is available by double-clicking here, we can see that this is a sound module and the output of the sound module is sound is via this channel 13 14 15 and 16 so that we can adjust the volume of each of these channels for the stereo outputs of the sound module

Why does groove music keep closing?

One of the most common reasons why built-in Windows applications sometimes crash is because the time and date on the computer is not set right. If that is the case, making sure that the right time and date is set on your computer will prevent Groove Music from crashing after the sign-in stage.

Programming drums in MIDI is no small feat, especially if you're not a drummer yourself, anyone can spot a good groove and maybe mark a basic beat, but programming something with feeling and realism can take a lot longer if you do the basics yourself Understanding in this article will walk you through eight ways to make your programmed MIDI drums more realistic and will do everything without any silly cowbell jokes.

Let's go number one with two hands, of course if you want to program something that a real drummer can play you have to keep in mind that they only have four limbs - the right foot is permanently glued to the kick drum, not literally the left foot opens and closes the hi-hats and the two hands are free to hit something up, so you can program a kick next to two drum hits and add a hi-hat at the same time G sharp, that's the clap plate by doing that Close pedal with left foot but of course you can't add a crash or any other drum or cymbal on the same beat if you want this pattern to sound realistic of course it is possible Abbey Road Vintage Drummer won't stop us but it certainly wouldn't very realistic to use dynamic velocities You are probably used to programming velocities on other instruments and drum velocit However, these are programmed in the same way that the difference between the softest and loudest drum hits tends to be greater than other instruments, reserving your highest velocities for all the loudest hits you need cover in a moment can be anywhere up to about fifty or sixty cover depending on the application speeds are particularly important with high-hatsnow we switch to Abbey Road sixty drummers and play the same on the high-hats If we then equalize all thehats speeds, the beat loses something. The magic number three Ghostnotes create Ghostnotes, also Gracenotes called, are often the missing pieces of the puzzle when it comes to creating realistic drum parts as you can see from this part played with studio drummer in contact. These very low detail hits are harder to hear, but if you take them away the whole drum part loses a lot of it a groove, so how do you get a feel for where to place ghost notes to start Imagine two hands playing sixteenth notes right left right left right left right left to better visualize that let's place the whole right hand and left sixteenth note Hits on Different Snare Notes in Piano Rona A good rule of thumb for programming ghost notes to add groove is to remove all right notes and only let the left hand sixteenth notes pick your ghost notes only from these remember the ones Keep speeds very low so they aren't that obvious when they're there but the beat loses its feel when you take them away Number four Kick with Crash Kick with Fills fill Almost every time you crash you should also set a kick.

Hard to find an example in music and the crash occurs that is not complete to fill in the low end and add some punctuation without losing much of the crash on its own while you are at it while of a fill, the kick is usually used to hold the measure on each quarter note, even if it plays a different rhythm during the main measure. These two ideas are not 100% constant and can be interpreted to be very common ways of using kicks Number five left foot free when hands are playing high hats The left foot can control the tension of the two pelvises and both open and close Studiodrummer makes sure this is done by separate MIDI notes, but when the high hats are not in use, maybe when the right hand goes hand on the ride cymbal the toms the left foot is free to hold the time by the hats with the pedal closes this sound comes from the midi note gsharp and you may have to make an effort r unless the hats are up and to the side, you could try to move the peddledhi hat out of time to do something to be heard better and to add some speed and feel to groove number six. Humanize your MIDI your Bawus a grid, but not people who are perfect for realistic drums Your notes should be a little off the grid and the speed should vary slightly.

Many tutorials will tell you this, but they don't tell you exactly how safe the grid is Timing and consistent speeds are impossible, but real drummers who have practiced for years can get pretty close, it's their job after all, because you're emulating a human, that doesn't mean your note timing and velocity have to be everywhere they have to Vary just a little up to 8 MIDI ticks too early or late and around 4 or 5 percent variance in the touch dynamics should give you the realistic human feeling.A general human feeling, if you are not playing in front of a clique, all timing is relative and real performance can be achieved In the end, getting a little faster or slower, uh, over time, that's not necessarily a mistake on the part of the player, it's barely noticeable, but it could be an unconscious cue making a song just a few BPM faster in the chorus while taking it back a few times for the verse, for example you can also think consider retiming snare hits all together by trying to bury all of the snare hits in a beat a little earlier to give the result a more hectic or panicky feeling, or pushing them a little later for a relaxed or relaxed one Bringing poise into beat number eight, filling in the outfills. When you're sketching a fill, you may have a rhythm in mind and then program it with just those notes instead being played as accented notes within a longer roll, rather than just these notes too program, program a straight roll of hits usually sixteenth notes at low speed and inst you can get the hits des fill by accentuating it and increasing its velocity, the result is a more complex fill with a little more oomph and life and if the notes are just plucked sherry from nowhere

What's the difference between Groove Music and Groove Music?

Wow, 10/10 organization. Viewing the mp3 files in explorer confirms that the metadata is still there, groove music is just ignoring it. I really wanted to like Groove Music, but it needs a lot of work. The only thing I like about Groove Music is being able to see and change what's playing when you adjust the volume.
