Hi folks, David and David here from payetteforward.com, and in this article we explain what to do when your iPhone apps are waiting or not downloading.
Now all you have to do is tap the app; a lot of you have probably already tried this. If it doesn't work we just move on to the next step but tap the app, sometimes that will solve the problem, sure. Second, just try restarting your iPhone; I can sometimes fix the problem sooner.

Clear the Cache and Data for Your Email App
Deleting data and cache files won't delete your emails; your emails are stored on your email provider's server. To clear cache: Access the Settings app and tap on Apps & notifications. Tap the Storage option.

So for most apps, the only thing you need to do is go to Settings if you want to change anything from the standard way it works, but in the Mail app, it's worth going through the Mail, Settings and seeing all the options there. They all work a little differently, especially when it comes to email, and I think it's worth seeing what settings can be changed to make receiving and sending email more efficient for you.
So let's go to Mail, Settings and take a look at these, under General we start with the first one, the default email reader. This is one you might want to stop, especially if you don't use Mail as this is the default app that appears when you click a link on a webpage or in an app that has a new email Message opens. So if you're not using Mail, consider setting it to something else.
Oddly enough, to make this change you have to go into Mail. Messages are verified. It's usually set to automatic, which is actually checked more often when you're plugged in than when you're using the battery.
You can set it for a specific time. One cool productivity hack is to set it to Manual and then you have to manually click the GetMail button on the toolbar to check for new emails. This is great when you don't want to be interrupted by new incoming email messages.
Then you have sound. You can set the tone for. change a new message arrives or set to none.
You can also check or uncheck this box depending on whether you want other sounds to play. Lots of people ask me how can you stop playing that whoosh sound every time you send an email somehow unnecessarily, this check box will do it for you. Next you have the number that is in.
the dock is displayed. So with the little icon here you will eventually have a red number like 1, 2, 3. That tells you how many new unread emails there are in your inbox.
But you can change that to all mailboxes or use a Smart instead, you can also set the notification of new messages. How often you see them on new messages in your inbox, limit to VIP contacts only, everyone in your contacts, or everything new in all mailboxes. You can also use the Downloads folder when you download an application.
This is the default location for it. You can always save, drag and drop each one and all of that. But it's useful to set this location to the same location that Safari uses Downloads.
But you can set it elsewhere if you want. Next, let's go to Accounts. What you see in Accounts now depends on which email service you're using, so whether you're using iCloud, Gmail, or your ISP, your corporate email, or something else.
Various things are displayed here. So, if you're just looking at iCloud, there are a couple of useful things you can set up. One of them is the drafts mailbox.
I know that goggle users in particular see tons of drafts saved in Goggle DraftMailbox for Mac Drafts. So these drafts are never saved on the server, and the email isn't even on the server until you actually hit Send. You can do the same for the trash on the other end.
So, if you're sticking to your cloud recycle bin, which most people probably should, but if you really want to have the recycle bin on your local drive, you can set it to On My Mac. That way, when you delete something, it is pulled from the server and only stored locally. This is a very useful setting for a lot of people.
I know a lot of people who delete a message. It goes to the trash and they immediately go to the trash and then empty the trash. That is not necessary.
You can set the message to Trash is automatically emptied every day or every time you quit Mail. Then you could just let the ngs pile up in the trash knowing they won't stay there long anyway. Now, under Fonts and Colors, if you're composing plain text email messages, as I often do, the message font setting here will change the font you use when composing it.
This is very useful when you want nice, large text for composing emails. For example, let's create an email message here. I set it to plain text so when you type a message you can see that it is pretty small.
It's this Helvetica 12 pt. But I could change this to say 18 pt and you could see it change its size. Plain text messages and messages that have only been set with the standard font are also displayed larger here when they are read.
Change the preview area here. So I could enlarge this to enlarge it. Now you can change the number of rows in a preview under Show.
You can see how it expands here as I go from two lines to three. I can also change what happens when I hit the delete key with the message selector. It can either go to archive whatever I want.
But you can put it in the trash. Notice if I swipe too, archive will be there When I change this to the Trash, I see Delete, then you have some Conversation Settings here. This is when you reply to someone and they reply to you.
It's a back and forth conversation. Mail tries to recognize these and you have some settings for how they are displayed and what happens when you look at them. Of course, you can also check the Organize by conversation or Highlight conversation under View if you want to group them better.
Now, under Create, you have the default message format, Plain Text or Rich Text. Either way, you can switch when you compose a new message. So I can compose a new message here and then go to Format.
You might see that I could switch to Rich Text. This is how I want my default to be plain text because most of the time I just want to write some plain text and send it to someone and there is no need to use rich text and send them a bigger message. If you want, you can have it automatically copied to it, or have yourself copied onto it, every message you send.
So you get a copy sent back, but the recipient doesn't know that it was blind copied. There is a check box here that also applies to plain and rich text. That is, just match the message.
So if someone sends you a rich text email and you reply, you reply in Richtext. I'll answer in the clear. Then you have some options that deal with quotes, so you can quote the text of the original message or not turn it off.
Increase the quote level. How much is indented in the reply. Also how much to quote.
I like it when it's set to Selected Text. For example, if I reply to this message I could see everything is in here. But when I select some text and then click Answers it only includes the selections that are included as quoted text, which gives you the opportunity to pick something someone asked and respond to it other than to include anything in the answer .
What about the rest? Well, I don't recommend using junk mail filtering. This is just local junk mail filtering on your Mac. It won't help you if you get your email elsewhere, but your Mac is saying on your iPhone or whatever.
It is best to leave the filtering of junk mail to the server. However, the Blocked section here can be used to block email addresses as well as phone numbers that are listed here for the Messages app. You can decide what to do with it if it matches.
Signatures are a completely different matter, of course, and I've talked about this many times before I set up signatures and applied them to the various accounts so you could access them, plus the default signature for each account. Then there are mail rules that are useful, but they're also only local to your Mac. So it's much better to go to iCloud.com.
Go to the Mail app there and use the rules at iCloud.com junk email filtering or the rules in it e the mail app, I'll let the server do the junk email filtering, like I mentioned earlier, whenever I make a rule I do it on iCloud.com or for my Goggle account, log into Gmail on the web, and use the filtering tools there.
But not everyone is like me. So you can use some local rules if it makes sense to you.
How do I fix not receiving emails?
- Check your Junk Email folder.
- Clean out your inbox.
- Check your inbox filter and sort settings.
- Check the Other tab.
- Check your Blocked senders and Safe senders lists.
- Check your email rules.
- Check email forwarding.
