Computer location wrong - how do we solve

How do I correct my location on my PC?

To change the default location for your PC, which Windows, apps, and services can use when a more exact location can't be detected:
  1. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Location.
  2. Under Default location, select Set default.
  3. The Windows Maps app will open. Follow the instructions to change your default location.

Nothing in the universe is static. In the Milky Way, billions of stars orbit the galactic center. Some, like our Sun, are fairly constant, keeping a distance of about 30,000 light years from the galactic center and completing an orbit of orderly ballet every 230 million years, more like an ice rink full of drunk toddlers.

But we could be unlucky in the future. At some point we might encounter a star that becomes a supernova, or a massive object that passes by and floods the earth with asteroids. If something like this happened, we would probably know thousands, if not millions, of years in advance.

But we still couldn't do much about it. Unless we move our entire solar system out of the way. In order to move the solar system, we need a stellar motor, a megastructure with which a star is steered through the galaxy.

It's the kind of thing that could be built by an advanced civilization with Dyson technology at the sphere level, thinking about its future millions of years in advance. But how can we move the hundreds of thousands of objects in the solar system? The good news is news we can ignore all of this. We just have to move the sun; all that other stuff is stuck to it by gravity and will follow wherever it chooses.

There are many ideas about what a stellar engine might look like and how it would work. We selected two based on our current understanding of the physics that could theoretically be built. The simplest type of stellar engine is the Shkadov engine, a giant mirror.

It works on the same principle as a missile. Like rocket fuel, the photons released as solar radiation carry an impulse, not a lot, but a little. For example, if an astronaut turned on a flashlight in space, he would push it back very, very slowly.

A stellar motor works a little better than a flashlight as the sun produces a lot of photons, the basic idea of ​​the Shkadov engine is to reflect up to half of the solar radiation to generate thrust and slowly push the sun where we want it. In order for the Shkadov engine to work, it must be held in the same place and not circling the sun; although the sun's gravity will try to pull it in, it would be aided by the radiation pressure that supports the mirror upwards. This means that the mirror would have to be very light, made of a micrometer-thin reflective sheet made of materials such as aluminum alloys.

The shape of the mirror is also important as it a. enveloping huge spherical shell would not work because the light would focus back towards the sun, heat it up and cause all sorts of uncomfortable problems. Instead, we use a parabola that sends most of the photons around the sun and in the same direction, which maximizes the thrust.

To prevent the earth from accidentally scorching or freezing with too much or too little sunlight, the only safe place to build a Shkadov engine is over the poles of the sun. This means that we can only move the sun vertically in the plane of the solar system and one direction in the Milky Way, which limits our travel options. But that's basically it.

For a civilization capable of building a Dyson sphere, this is a relatively straightforward endeavor. Not complicated, just very difficult to build at full throttle, the solar system could probably be shifted about a hundred light years over 230 million years. For a few billion years it gives us almost complete control over the Sun's orbit in the galaxy.

But in the short term, it might not be fast enough to dodge a deadly supernova. So we thought we could do better. So we asked our astrophysicist friend if he could develop a faster stellar engine for this article.

He did, and wrote an article about it that was published in a peer-reviewed journal, Our Source Document. We're going to call our new stellar engine the Caplan engine. It works much like a traditional rocket: shoot exhaust in one direction to get around It's a large space station platform powered by a Dyson sphere that collects matter from the sun to power nuclear fusion.

It shoots a very fast particle beam at almost 1 percent the speed of light from the solar system. A second beam pushes the sun forward like a tugboat. The Caplan engine requires a lot of fuel, millions of tons per second.

To collect this fuel, our engine uses very large electromagnetic fields to direct hydrogen and helium from the solar wind into the engine. The solar wind alone doesn't provide enough fuel, however, and that's where the Dyson sphere comes in. Its power can be used to refocus the sunlight onto the sun's surface.

This heats small regions to extreme temperatures, lifting billions of tons of mass from the sun. This mass can be collected and separated into hydrogen and helium. The helium is burned explosively in thermonuclear fusion reactors.

A beam of radioactive oxygen at a temperature close to a billion degrees is ejected and becomes our main source of propulsion from our stellar thruster. So that the engine doesn't just hit the sun, it has to balance itself. To do this, we accelerate the collected hydrogen with electromagnetic fields using particle accelerators and shoot a jet back at the sun.

This balances the engine and transfers the thrust of our engine back to the sun. In just a million years, this engine can move the sun 50 light-years, more than enough to avoid a supernova. At full throttle, the solar system can be completely redirected into its galactic orbit in 10 million years.

But wait, are we going to use up the sun this way? Fortunately, the sun is so massive that even billions of tons of material barely scratch the surface. In fact, this megastructure will extend the life of our sun as stars with lower mass burn and burn slower the solar system will remain habitable for many more billions of years. With a Caplan engine, we could turn the entire solar system into our spaceship.

For example, by orbiting backwards in the galaxy and colonizing hundreds or thousands of stars as we pass them. It may not please where it leads us; perhaps our descendants will set sail and become an interstellar species for millions of years to come.
