In this article, I'm going to show you how to fix some issues with a couple of different SVG files and think through those issues and come to a solution.
The first SVG file I opened is the New England Patriots logo and I downloaded it from the internet and one of the things I love to do when I've never worked with an SVG file is I don't know exactly what it contains so I like to deselect the object and then choose the rectangular square tool and make it black and draw a box and then I go to the object from the bottom down and as you can see there is a white frame around that logo that you wouldn't otherwise see if you didn't have a box around it. So if I hold my control key and go to the corner of the logo, I can adjust the size and I'll move it down a bit so we have some space to work. I'm going to click on the object and ungroup and as you can see nothing happened, but if I hit ungroup again and then a third time it separates the objects sometimes objects have to be hung several times depending on how those Original SVG file was reassembled when I pull these pieces away from the original object to see that there are cutouts with the cutouts There are some potential problems as you can see with the original file that it needs to be layered is a solid white base background with the red pieces the blue piece with a cut out star and then a silver piece on top of the blue but again they are cut out separately to make the base a solid white piece we would normally go ways and then break apart, but as you can see nothing happens that is because there is a different grouping and if i want to pick up the group going up, you can see the star is actually a separate object, and I can drag it away and don't need it, so I'll just delete it now.
I click on the white background. We go to the path break apart and then we go to the path and union and we now have a good solid white background to work with. We can move our red parts back into place if we move our blue layer ack you'll notice that we still have a cutout around the face that we don't need so we're going to zoom in.
You can zoom in by using your plus or press the minus key on your keyboard or hold down Ctrl while scrolling back and forth with the mouse wheel to zoom in and out when we click on our node editor tool and then select the blue layer. You will see that we have a number of nodes here that we can click to select and we can even move them to create new shapes I want to delete these nodes being careful not to get any of the nodes in of the surrounding border once those nasal nodes are deleted we get rid of the cutout that we no longer need and now we can move the silver layer back into place and as you can see we have a nice blue layer so we are a red layer and then a white underlayer we can remove the square, select and group all of them and save it as a simple SVG file The next SVG I ran into a problem with is the Denver Broncos logo as you can tell by that when we having our layers we should have a solid blue background with an orange layer for the mane and eye and a white layer for the horse's face some cutouts for the eyes and nostrils. However, if you ungroup this object you'll see that those blue objects are not cutouts needed, if they were just cutouts in that particular SVG I need to ungroup again to get a complete separation Mel zoom in a little i click on the first object and click on the white layer i go to path and difference and now when i move the white layer you will see that it is now a cutout.
I will do the same for this area hope you have to select both objects and the difference and i will do the same for nostriland now you will see that all three areas are cut out now the eye is actually separated from the main line so click we on the main layer we hold the shift key and click on the eye go to the path and combine and now you see that we have three different layers I'm going to zoom out so you can see, now pull them apart so we have the white ones Layer up we have the Norwich layer up and we have the blue layer we can select and group all of them then we can save this as a simple SVG file too I hope you enjoyed this article if you clicked the 'Like' button have, share and subscribe and please like my facebook page on facebook .com slash cricutcentral
