Ping.exe application error - how do you solve
What is ping exe?
ping.exe is also known as TCP/IP Ping Command. It is a legitimate file that belongs to software Windows Operating System developed by Microsoft Corporation. It's default location in a PC is C:\Windows\System32. Malware programmers create files with malware and name them after ping.exe to spread virus on the internet.
Hi everyone, in this article we are going to talk about one of the most widely used utility that is used in networks and I am talking about the ping command.
Now the ping command is a simple tool that you can use to troubleshoot network problems like network connectivity. So you can use it to test if you are connected to a local network or even the internet. You can also use it to test that your network card is working properly, and it is also used to test DNS issues like name resolution.
For example, let's ping a host's IP address. Now this host can be any network device, for example a computer, server, router or printer, regardless of whether it is in your local network or over the Internet. But in this example we are going to ping a server on our local network.
So we would open a command prompt and then type the word ping along with the IP address of the server and then hit enter. Then the ping utility sends 4 data packets to the server's IP address, then our computer waits for a response. Then the server sends the data packets back to us as a response and these responses are called echo response requests and these responses inform you of what is happening to the server we pinged.
So if we got an answer, for example, that's a good sign. This means that there is a network connection between us and the server, regardless of whether this server is in your local network or over the Internet. So 4 packets were sent and then 4 packets were received.
However, if we ping the same server and don't get a response this time, it means the server isn't responding and it could mean that there is no network connection between our computer and the server. There can be various reasons for this. For example, if we ping the server and get a message saying 'Request timed out', it could mean that the server is down or that the server is up, but a firewall is using that to block all ping requests.
Now what if you try to ping a host and not all data packets answer you? For example, when you ping a host, your computer will send out 4 packets of data. However, sometimes you will only get 1, 2 or 3 packages back instead of the 4 you sent. Well this is known as packet loss and packet loss can occur for several reasons.
It could mean that there is a network congestion. If there is a lot of traffic in a network and the network cannot handle this additional traffic, the data packets are discarded. Or it could also be due to faulty hardware, such as B. bad cables or poor wiring.
Or it could be a bad network card or connections, or it could be a bad modem, which exactly happened to me in my case. A few years ago when I was constantly lagging behind in almost everything I did on the internet. So I did a continuous ping test and dropped at least a third of my packets pretty consistently.
So I decided it had to be my modem. So I swapped it and solved the problem. Or in another scenario, if we wanted to ping a remote server on the internet and received a message saying “Destination host unreachable” it means that no route to the destination can be found.
So this could mean that a router has no information to route data to the destination, or that the remote server has failed or is disconnected from the network. Or it could also mean that your computer is not connected to a network. So let's use the ping command in a typical scenario.
Suppose someone tells me they don't have an internet connection because they can't access web pages on their computer, which is a pretty common problem. The first thing I do is sit at their computer and use the ping utility to see if they are actually not connected to the internet. So, before I even check your modem, router, or any cable connections, the first thing I do is do a simple ping test.
So I would open a command prompt and see if I can ping a website like yahoo.com. Now notice that with this method I am actually pinging the domain name yahoo.com, not its IP address.
Because this is also how I test name resolution issues related to DNS, and besides, I haven't saved Yahoo's IP address. By pinging yahoo.com and if the ping is successful, I will know we are connected to the internet because I received a successful response from yahoo.com.
Then I automatically know that all of my hardware such as my cables, network card, router, and modem are working properly, including my ISP. Now I know that the reason this computer cannot access web pages is related to software, not hardware. So the problem is most likely with your internet browser or it is a firewall problem.
By doing a ping test first, I saved myself a lot of time by avoiding the hassle of looking for the modem or router, looking for LEDs, checking the cables, or looking behind the computer to see whether a network cable is connected to my network card. I just sat down and did a simple ping test. So you only need to check your hardware if the ping was unsuccessful.
However, before you start checking your hardware, you can use the ping command to check other things as well, such as: B. Test that your network card is working properly. This is known as the loopback test.
A loopback test sends signals back to your computer for testing purposes. So at a command prompt I would type ping and then the loopback IP address 127.0.0.1, or you can just type 'ping localhost' which does the same thing.
And if the ping is successful, you can be sure that your network card is working properly. However, if the loopback test fails, there is a problem with your network card. Now the ping command can also be used to test problems with DNS name resolution.

And like I said, if the ping was successful it means that all of my hardware is working properly. However, it also verifies that DNS is working properly. As you can see, DNS was successfully resolved and the IP address for yahoo.com was found.
But when we ping yahoo.com and get a message saying the ping request couldn't find the host yahoo.com.
Please check the name and try again 'then this could be a DNS problem as our computer was unable to resolve the domain name to an IP address. Next, if you already know what the IP address is, try pinging the IP address instead. Or if you don't, as most of us don't already, you can enter an easy-to-remember IP address, such as: B.

If the ping was successful this time, it will confirm confirm This is a DNS problem as the computer can ping IP addresses but not domain names. To solve this, there are a few things you can try. You can try flushing your DNS by typing 'ipconfig / flushdns' at a command prompt or you want to check your DNS settings in your network card configuration and it could also be a problem with the DNS servers themselves or a problem with your ISP .
Finally, the ping command can also be combined with other subcommands called 'switches'. And switches are used to change the parameters of the ping utility and you can see a full list of these switches by typing 'ping /?' enter .
