Sometimes in our computing life we actually use software without realizing that we are using certain software - and a very good example of this is FFMPEG! FFMPEG is actually a command line utility and its job is to convert file formats, and in that process it can do a number of cool things as well. Well, due to the license from FFMPEG, it is actually included in certain other pieces of software to do its job in the background and as a result, you may realize that it is actually there, but it actually is! So what we're going to do today is not only do we give FFMPEG the recognition it deserves, we're going to learn how to actually use it via the command line, that's the plain, vanilla FFMPEG that's done from the ground up Your computer is running! So yes, I hope you are interested! After learning how to use FFMPEG, I found it quite useful and indispensable in many situations, so yes I hope you think the same! You're watching another random Wednesday episode on 0612 TV! Hello and welcome back to Another random Wednesday episode! So, FFMPEG! A very interesting tool - let's start with how to install it, then we get to the basics, and then we get to some more interesting things you can get by with this software, of course, like yourself turns out it's a lot more than a file format converter but yeah like we said we'll see when the time comes. First of all, of course, how do we install this program? Well you can find a download link in the article description that says It will take you to the download page on the FFMPEG official site.

You will immediately find that things are a bit complicated as there are three different versions of FFMPEG to choose from. But they tell you that if you have no idea what to do here, just pick the static version so we'll do that! Basically the idea is that the static version will contain everything of FFMPEG in one .exe file, which is the most convenient for our purposes! So I would recommend And that too.

Download the latest version for each computer and you will find that what you end up with is an archive. Open the archive in some sort of archive manager that you can check out PeaZip , to which I will also link in the article description. In the archive, enter the 'bin' folder and search for FFMPEG.

This is really the only file you need, so extract it to a location you can remember and we can start converting! Now, if you want to use FFMPEG from anywhere on your computer, you might want to save in an important location, e.g. B. in a folder with the program files, and then link to the PATH to it variable.

What you now see on the screen are the steps I used for this. I actually set things up this way because it just makes it easier for me This step is optional, of course, so if you don't want to do that, make sure FFMPEG is in the same folder as the article files you want to work with Now let's get to the fun part, which is converting files with FFMPEG! Well before that I know I've mentioned articles repeatedly, but as it turns out, FFMPEG can work with images and audio too! Well it's a command line utility, you just tell it what file to process and what kind of output you want, and it just does it! Amazing as it is! Convert from .avi to .mp4.

Now you will see a folder here where I saved the files that I want to work with in this article. The quickest way to open a command prompt on a Windows computer is to first make sure nofiles is selected, then hold down Shift, right click in an empty space and then click 'Open Command Window Here' . This is handy because the Command window opens in that particular folder so you can get started right away.

Here's what the FFMPEG syntax looks like - you start by saying FFMPEG, then you say -i which means 'I'm about to specify an input file', and then go ahead and specify the input file! So what we want to do here is convert an AVI file to MP4. So just all you have to do is hit the space bar and type in the new name of the file. Make sure the extension is MP4.

Hit enter and off you go! FFMPEG will now convert an AVI file to MP4 by just referring to the file extension of the filename you gave it. FFMPEG is actually that simple, and most of the time when we want to convert between different file formats, that's really all you have to do. But well, the time will come when you want to do something a little more complex, and this is where the command switches come in.

The first thing that probably worries you is the quality of the file. You probably want to be able to tweak the quality, and what I'm going to show you here works for MP4 and AVI, respectively. Let's start with AVI.

Now there is one factor in image compression, the quan. is called tizer, which actually affects file quality, and it has to do with how to choose a bit rate when it comes to variable bit rate encoding, but we won't go into that too much. Basically, all you need to know is that the quantizer is a number.

sync services agent

The smaller the number, the higher the quality. Of course, the higher the quality, the larger the file size, so you have to compromise. To get the quantizer to output Setting the -AVI file, all you have to do is good, you run FFMPEG, provide the input, then type -q followed by a number.

This number is of course the desired quality setting. Numbers between 20 and 30 are common, but if you want very high quality article, you can go down to a single digit. If you want a lower quality you can go up to 50.

Experiment! You can see the difference in the various settings you choose Note that this will only work if you are writing a file with an .avi extension. If you do this for MP4 files, you will be giving the -crf value instead! So instead of -q you have to type -crf and then type your number, I think this exists on a slightly different scale than the flag - q, so yes, be careful with that, the values are not necessarily the same! Experiment again! You know, look at the file size, look at the quality and decide if you want to nudge up or down.

If you prefer finer control, you can also specify the output file bitrate. Now bitrates work for both audio and article in one file, so you probably want to tell if you want to tell if this is on the article channel or the And to specify this, type a colon, then type v or a depending on which stream you want to target. Then enter a number.

For example, if I want the article quality to be 1000KB, which is actually quite low, well, you can. I can even specify audio and article bit rates at the same time, and that will be the two bit rates of the two di. Freeze, of course, only if you want more precise control.

So yes, for the vast majority of use cases, I'd say what you've learned so far covers your basics, but let's say we want to go a step further - let's look at FFMPEG filters just for fun! Well, here's the deal - FFMPEG actually comes with a whole range of different filters! And they all have different effects on the article itself. What I've done is through the whole list of article and audio filters, I've picked a total of five that I want to go through with you. Two of these are for audio and the remaining three are for article and these are the things you would probably do the most.

Yes, let's take it from the top, we're going back into slideshow mode because we overflowed! Let's quickly jump through the five filters. Let's tweak the volume first. To do this, just add the following flag to the FFMPEG call.

The flag itself says we want to use a filter on the audio channel and its parameter says we want to invoke the volume filter, with a setting of two. The number we give is actually a multiplier. So if we say volume = 2, we double the volume.

You can of course also use decimal volumes, including values less than 1, to reduce the volume. Next up is the reassignment of the channels. Sometimes we accidentally record on a stereo track with a mono microphone, which leaves the sound on the left channel only.

We can easily fix this by mapping the audio from the left input channel to both output channels, which means command call! The left channel is 0 and the right channel is 1. So here we assign the left input channel to the left output channel and then the left input channel to the right output channel, creating an audio track that has sound on both sides. Let's move on to the article filters First the cropping, the syntax looks like this, notice how we say -filter: v because now we want to target article with four parameters.

The first two are width and height, the spe Specify the width and height of the output. The two remaining parameters are optional and specify the upper left corner of the bleed. If not specified, the bleed will be centered.

You can use arithmetic for this too. This instruction means, for example, that we want to crop the article to 2/3 of its original size. The variables in_w and in_h are available, which relate to the input width or height.

Next up is the article scaling. This looks very similar to the first two parameters of the Crop filter. Use w and h to set the width and height of the output.

microsoft rewards support

You can do the math as you would with cropping. The variables in_w and in_h are also available here. If you also want proportional scaling, you can specify -1 for one of the input parameters.

Its value is determined from the length you specify. Finally rotation. Just say rotation = and enter your angle.

Unfortunately, your angle has to be given in radians. Fortunately, it's not that difficult since you simply multiply by the constant PI / 1 80. So the following statement is based on a clockwise rotation of 45 degrees.

The result of this operation looks something like this. And there you have it! We actually went through a fairly comprehensive beginner's guide on how to install and use FFMPEG - even looked at some complex features in the form of filters, but I barely scratched the surface! Like I said, FFMPEG has a whole bunch of filters and if you want to check out the full list I'll add the link in the article description so you can learn more. That's all there is for that particular episode, it looks like I ran into this a bit, but hopefully you will find this article enlightening anyway! Thank you very much for watching and until next time you watch 0612 TV with NERDfirst.net.
